If we really wanted to enforce 100% compliance of all rules and regulations in effect here, it would require the entire population of the Big Island to be employed as Hawaii County investigators and inspectors. Is that what you want? Otherwise, where do you draw the line?
Punaweb posters are not the ones who decide which rules and regs get prosecuted. The grand jury made that call and neglected to ask Punaweb posters for their OK.
You talk about voter fraud like it's a minor rule. It's a felony! This is explained to the voter on the registration form in bold black print that is tough to miss. Tiffany ran news articles on voter fraud in the BIC, when it was OTHER PEOPLE doing it. But when it is her crime, oh that's a vendetta by the news media and haters making a big fuss about nothing. Uh-huh.

Is it true that Tiffany was blogging about rubbish and speed traps on the commute from Hawaiian Acres to Pahoa during the time in question about the voter registration? I am asking because I quit following her blog years ago and someone told me this was the case. If true, beating the rap in court might be hard. Of course, my source could be prejudiced or just plain wrong.
As others have noted, in the ordinary run of things this would not be such a big deal. When someone runs for public office, however, it seems that different standards apply. The thing with the tax exemption keeps getting mentioned, but really has nothing to do with the legal case, other than to confirm some people's negative expectations. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Yes.
But grand juries, police, and prosecutors are generally more arbitrary than consistent. For example, do you get a ticket every time you go over the speed limit? Look at the wide variation in bail set on some recent arrests, several cases were serious crimes with extremely low bail requests.
The moon kind of surprises me sometimes. I’ll be out at night and I’ll see a nice moon, and say, “Hey, that looks good.” Then I’ll say, “Oh sh-t, I went up there one time!” Kind of surprises me. It has been two years and I don't remember what evidence fell into the time in question but there was enough evidence to hand down an incitement. Tiffany voted where she didn’t live for 5 years and two elections but there is a stature of limitations problem so it is too late to charge her going back to when it started. I have already mentioned that I will not discuss the particulars of this case until it has been decided but your question is a good one.
Enough said I'm going to bed.

Hotpie YES, of course you could say its only illegal till you get caught, but here she is and now "opinions" of law should have no bearing. No matter how hard or may times they might be stated as fact .... Read the news, it's happening everyday.

At which point some "goody two-shoes" would be accused of "gaming the system" since they wouldn't be subject to any fines, thereby "not doing their part" to contribute to the "economy".
But, at least we would finally have "rules and laws ... for everyone ... at all times."

At which point a niche market would be created for specialized county worker defense attorneys. More good paying jobs.

More likely, a "minimum fine assessment" of $$$$/year -- with credit for any "actual" fines.

Everyone knows what she did, so a trial isn't going to have much, if any effect on her future political aspirations. But, if you believe a stake through the heart rather than handcuffs and leg irons is necessary, perhaps you consider her more skilled and formidable than I do.
Bottom line is a trial is necessary to bring all this to a conclusion no matter what the results will be. I realize different folks want different results. You know where I stand, she needs to be convicted for the record but the punishment really doesn't matter at this point. Just a guilty verdict for a felony.

Oh come on RJ admit it, you want the circus value, the front pages, the letters to the editor, the burning of her in effigy on a full moon night by tie-dyed hippies down on the lava flats in Kalapana, the online forums focused not on issues of import but rather whether or not little ol' Tiff did or didn't do the dastardly deed. And all the while there's RJ expounding on the virtues of stringing her up from the highest Albizia left in Puna. Oh the drama. The cover shots on our widely circulated local rags. Fame!
Yeah well it'd be fun. Our own local style chase our tales around and around in circles chanting Tiffany Tiffany Tiffany Puna kine fun! Though I gotta wonder, how long you gonna beat that dead horse? I mean gee, if Billy walks Tiff has got to as well, yeah?
