BEWARE-DOGS-Leilani Estates/Hawaiian Shores!
#21
Oops....pressed enter by mistake.

Aren't Leilani lots Ag? I looked on the website but couldn't find the info.

In Mexico and many other countries, if you don't want the neighbor's dog to eat your donkey, you have to build a fence around your lot. But this, this is the united states of america. If a dog enters my private property and attacks my dog, sheep, chicken or a person and is not dissuaded by me I am compelled to shoot them. I can't fathom the law saying that I cannot stop a dog from killing my dog who has entered my property but I'll find out and report back.

This issue has been going on for a very long time for us and has nothing to do with the police having to look over the looters in Kalapana. One thing does not have anything to do with the other. I would never think that my chickens have priority over someone elses misfortune, but I also think I should be able to defend them from harm. The humane society is not the police department and they are the ones who are, or should be dealing with these issues head on with the animal problems.

By the way, many of us own agriculture property, not just residential. This problem is not in one area or neighborhood it is widespread. Dogs are no better than my chickens, I have both as well as cats,I keep my animals in my fenced yard, to keep them safe. I wish my chickens were big enough to take care of the other dogs when they show up, but sorrowfully they are not, so I guess to resolve this issue I just need to get some relief by getting a bigger, meaner dog than what the neighbors have. At least that may level the playing field.

On and on it goes....the viscious cycle of who has a bigger dog to terrorize the neighborhood with.

What cross street might one avoid while on foot, due to this canine contamination?

The coconut wireless is alive and well in Puna. I am finally able to be heard. Talked to the HOA in Leilani Estates yesterday, got the address of the owners of said property and will be sending a letter soon. Have not seen or heard from renters or dogs, but continue to see another dog that was reported at same time. We can only hope that they take this seriously as children walk this street every day..........

In the wee hours this morning, 2 dogs attacked our chickens in upper Hawaiian Shores. They were young pitbulls that had tags (could hear the jingle as they ran past me while we were out there in the dark yelling at them to get out of there). They tore through the chicken wire under the nest box. That piece is replaced with a piece of tin now.
It was horrible - chickens screaming & squawking... feathers everywhere... lost 3 hens so far, & some others have injuries, all were traumatized... us too.

We are sorry you had to experience this - anything we can do just call!
Two close friends 10 miles apart being victimized by loose dogs within weeks of each other.

Isolated incidents or an epidemic of dangerous loose dogs?

Once they kill - they will do it again!

Lesson apparently not learned. Yesterday morning we saw two of the puppies in the road. Unbelievable as it is her dogs have been seen in other peoples yards since the chicken slaughter. Honestly at this point I think the only thing that will probably (maybe) get her attention is when the dog(s) attack a person walking down the street. Based on the noise the dogs make, sadly I think it's just a matter of time.
