Dog Prices
#21
Craigslist draws a distinction between pets (specifically dogs and cats) and livestock such as horses, sheep and goats. Lately there has been an influx of fighting roosters, one seller links to his website which advertises gaff knives and has video of fights. This guy is currently posting multiple listings daily, but all have the same phone number.

Craigslist is pretty much consumer edited, so a listing only gets pulled when 3 different people flag it as prohibited or spam/overpost.

A good fully trained cleared (health issues) and pedigreed dog - can fetch up to 20K$ in some circles. I think the going rate now for service dogs are at about this level.

If one plans on spending 10-15 years with a dog - these kinds of numbers do pencil out for a top notch specimen, My golden was (is) one of those purchases.

He is ten now - He has yet to chew anything that belongs to me, soil the house or bite some one (athough several folks were deserving - grin)

some of us want a bmw or enjoy gaming - - others will just have the perfect dog, thank you

(He loves the Pate when we travel to Europe, being certified as a service animal - he has flown trans atlantic in a first class seat - with the head flight attendant serving him cookies - its a dogs life.....)

I got my girl at the humane society. She had been abandoned twice before. I paid $50 for her. She was microchipped and spayed.
I think I got a deal: http://www.flickr.com/photos/punaguy/5251906448/</quote>;

You have an absolutely gorgeous dog. She is a showstopper. Smile

"The Banksters who just got a tax cut have this kind of money"

They arent buying dogs, minor leagues - they just got a tax break on stud & race horses (instant write offs for "capital expenditures" ) , we just lost our short form local property tax deduction on federal returns - and so it goes

I have friends who take care of all kinds of horses including those used for stud and racing. When the wealthy hire them to care for their horses, my friends are able to make a living. Do you have a problem with people working as farrier or a groom? Who do you think hires a lot of the farriers and grooms? The poor?

Would you rather the government confiscate the wealthy people's money and my friends go on welfare?

Communists???? Perhaps a bit of common restraint would suffice.

"Do you have a problem with people working as farrier or a groom?"

nope I respect labor, creativity, personal property and the freedom of individual choice

I think what got this topic rolling was the sentiment on overpaying for dogs - personal freedom in Hawaii as it relates to spending on dogs

freedom for horse lovers = freedom for dog lovers fair enough?

related article ---- this is what can happen if a loved companion gets ill. Id rather spend it on genetics - not vet bills

like I said - personal choices
