Disturbing, racist post
This is as bad as arguing gun laws and not Puna or Hawaii, even though it may have started on this site. ENOUGH PLEASE!

This thread appears to be a bunch of mainland transplants trying to all pretend they are politically correct and that they are not racist in any manner. I call male bovine excrement to 90% of the posts.
Ignore it.

[Big Grin][}Smile][Big Grin] 17/105 mention Hawaii, or the Big Island or some part of the Big Island, and I also counted SBH's Aloha.

I know. I need something to do. Hubby's got the remote and its a CSI re-run. FB just has pics of my relatives in SCV, Cali taking I-phone pics of SNOW this afternoon for gods sake!! I also promised myself I not buy anything until Feb so no perusing my usual internet shopping sites.

Looking at the definitions of racism you supplied; the first two don't contain the word hate. Hate is not a necessary component of racism.

It sounds that by your idea of what constitutes racism you must condone or participate in genocide. Simply having blanket beliefs that cover all or most of an ethnic group is racist, you don't have to say you hate them.

i.e. "I believe (insert ethnicity here) are dumb and lazy, I don't hate them; they're just dumb and lazy" or "I think (insert ethnicity here) are loudmouth know-it-alls, they're not all bad but most of them never shut up"

Those are racist beliefs, but aren't hateful. At least a person that holds such thoughts doesn't think so.

Tom is an instigator, I have no idea if he is a racist. He made a racist joke, so it doesn't help prove he isn't a racist but it doesn't definitively make him one.

As far as I can tell the dividing line of racial joke from racist joke is one lampoons the idea of racial stereotypes and the other is supposedly "funny because its true!"

@mdd7000

I think KathyH made a pretty good point I tend to agree with that prejudgment of people is human nature. Liberal guilt apologists for Island culture notwithstanding. The problem with folks that lambast the idea of political correctness is that they want to decide what is OK for other people. You can think whatever you want but if someone of a certain ethnic group want to be addressed as an "Ethnito" that is how you refer to them, not the name you heard growing up. Its simply called being polite.

@birdmove

Well, they were Missourians; what do you expect?

"I was raised to believe that ignoring such things helps grease the slippery slope which has discrimination, lynchings, and genocide waiting at the bottom. Those things all happen when good people look away, and allow other human beings to be objectified as less than fully human, for long enough that treating others in inhumane ways becomes socially acceptable as long as they they belong to one of the "lesser" groups."

worth re posting as food for thought as we look around and wonder where all the indigenous people have gone...There were over a million before the off islanders arrived

As to all this legal talk - bring the lawyers if you like - we have a few on retainer ourselves, have never evaded a fair fight.

..... or park the guns and racism and see you at a tug of war at your favorite mud puddle if you want to bring an "action" - grin

So now wikipedia, where anyone can post anything they want as truth, is a valid source for legal definitions? We are supposed to accept that if wikipedia says there is no relation between racial/ethnic jokes and racism, then it must be true?

The Lack,
Hey csgray that sounds like some of the contributors here on Punaweb don’t it? You know the ones that self appoint themself’s as the racial and political correctness police. All while doing this they cloak themself behind their mud slinging rock of anonymity and cry foul. Cowardly to say the least, even if it’s an attempt at being moral and righteous and we know it’s not.

Now Rob there is your real trolls, but I guess it’s OK because all of the mud slinging and derogatory name calling is in my direction.

This is great. 8 pages of blah blah blah over a simple joke that seemed to be targeted at no one. What great use of time. Go get em Mr. Lack!

Mauka starts this off with a novel on how the HAOLE is doing this and that, "Damned mainland American attitude". I would love to see this kind of response over the continued use of the word HAOLE. Yup, haole. Those white people who wipe out the locals with THEIR haole diseases and THEIR white or should I say haole God and push THEIR haole agenda on the world. It goes from a simple minded joke to bashing white people, and we are still focusing on a comment on shooting cans, err i mean ethnic folk. Thats the real joke.

How about this? If you don't like white people and their American attitude, leave the United States. Oh yeah, take off those Nike shoes. Stop driving that Dodge while eating a cheeseburger from MCD's. No shopping at Target, Walmart, Safeway now ya'll. See that Cheveron, Shell station, pass it up. Go poke that fish and pick opihi and stop being a LUKEWARM haole hater. LOL

You wanna embrace the island life of old? Do it to the fullest. The internet and that computer you are using, yep you know. Haole baby!!!!
