McDonalds in Pahoa?
#21
While other places do have things like CDOs, there is nothing in place like that for Pahoa. That is why Rob Tucker and others started bringing this issue up a long time ago, but no one listens until the building starts, and by then it is too late.

True that McDonalds can do what they can legally do based on the zoning of a particular property and Building Department review. However, citizens can have a positive impact on a new store. The one close to me was gonna put up a real tacky looking mess w/ 24 hour order speaker phone going all night. After much protest the final building fits in w/ the neighbor hood and nicely landscaped and they make people go to the order window to pay/order after hours so the night time noise is kept to a minimum. I have noticed an increased McD trash on my block however :/ BTW I have an addiction to McD fries even if they are really bad for me (just saying).

From McDonald's website.

What characteristics does McDonald’s require in the available site?

Minimum square footage for a McDonald’s site 35,000 square feet
Corner or corner wrap with signage on two major streets
Signalized intersection
Ability to build up to 4,500 square feet of building at any time
Parking to meet all applicable codes
Ability to build a minimum height of 23'-4"

Doesn't sound like the property across from the Post Office.

Obie, From your lips to God's ear.

Btw,.

"...What kid doesn't love McDonald's Chicken McNuggets? The white meat chunks are tasty and perfect for little mouths and hands. And while most parents are aware that McNuggets aren't perfectly healthy, they probably don't know exactly what goes into making them.

CNN has revealed that the fast-food chain makes this popular menu item with the chemical preservative tBHQ, tertiary butylhydroquinone, a petroleum-based product. Mcnuggets also contain dimethylpolysiloxane, "an anti-foaming agent" also used in Silly Putty.

Across the Atlantic in Britain, McNuggets don't contain these chemicals and they're less fattening."

It is amazing how an unsubstantiated rumor can produce such a backlash.
