The American Spectator criticized the film as intellectually incoherent and inaccurate, accusing Ferguson of blaming "a lot of bad people [with] economic and political views to the right of [his]."

Ah, The American Spectator, bastion of journalistic integrity:

Well then, try reading "The Return of Depression Economics and the Crisis of 2008" by Paul Krugman, winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics.

It's not a very long book, and it's written in a style that the layperson (such as myself) can easily comprehend.

Think about the entitlement programs that the politicians get when they leave office and while they are in office.

Now, who's really the FREELOADER living off the Govt TIT?

Taxes we pay here in the U.S.:

Accounts Receivable Tax
Building Permit Tax
Capital Gains Tax
CDL License Tax
Cigarette Tax
Corporate Income Tax
Court Fines (indirect taxes)
Dog License Tax
Federal Income Tax
Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA)
Fishing License Tax
Food License Tax
Fuel Permit Tax
Gasoline Tax
Hunting License Tax
Inheritance Tax
Interest Expense (tax on the money)
Inventory Tax I
RS Interest Charges (tax on top of tax)
IRS Penalties (tax on top of tax)
Liquor Tax
Local Income Tax
Luxury Taxes
Marriage License Tax
Medicare Tax
Property Tax
Real Estate Tax
Recreational Vehicle Tax
Road Toll Booth Taxes
Road Usage Taxes (truckers)
Sales Taxes
School Tax
Septic Permit Tax
Service Charge Taxes
Social Security Tax
State Income Tax
State Unemployment Tax (SUTA)
Telephone Federal Excise Tax
Telephone Federal, State and Local Surcharge Taxes
Telephone Federal Universal Service Fee Tax

Telephone State and Local Tax
Telephone Usage Charge Tax
Toll Bridge Taxes Toll

Workers’ Compensation Tax

So we are taked when we make money, spend money, save money, invest money -- and die.
Ever look at your phone bill (if you have a land line)? Twice the bill is taxes.

This is far more than what is needed, to cover social programs which are soon to be a thing of the past IMHO.

The Wall Street Journal reports:

"Families were more dependent on government programs than ever last year.

Nearly half, 48.5%, of the population lived in a household that received some type of government benefit in the first quarter of 2010, according to Census data. Those numbers have risen since the middle of the recession when 44.4% lived [in] households receiving benefits in the third quarter of 2008.

The share of people relying on government benefits has reached a historic high, in large part from the deep recession and meager recovery, but also because of the expansion of government programs over the years.

Means-tested programs, designed to help the needy, accounted for the largest share of recipients last year. Some 34.2% of Americans lived in a household that received benefits such as food stamps, subsidized housing, cash welfare or Medicaid (the federal-state health care program for the poor).

Another 14.5% lived in homes where someone was on Medicare (the health care program for the elderly). Nearly 16% lived in households receiving Social Security.

High unemployment and increased reliance on government programs has also shrunk the nation’s share of taxpayers. Some 46.4% of households will pay no federal income tax this year, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center. That’s up from 39.9% in 2007, the year the recession began."

Of course, this only refers to those who get “benefits” from the feds. Millions more live directly on salaries paid by the feds. And then there are the millions more who live on salaries paid to them because of federal subsidies, tax angles, legal requirements and so forth. Think of the lawyer working for Goldman Sachs whose job is to keep the company from running afoul of the SEC. Think of the paper shuffler working at the University of Maryland whose job only exist because the feds subsidize education. Think of the private contractor getting paid billions to build the biggest embassies in the world.

They are all zombies...all doing things that probably shouldn’t be done at all...all draining the economy of real wealth.

And there are so many of them that the mathematics of democracy have now turned against it. More zombies than productive citizens. More people with a stake in further federal spending than people with a interest in stopping it.

And so, the feds borrow. The feds spend. And more and more of the real economy shifts away from real production...and towards the zombie economy...of pretend work and make-believe production.

Sounds to me that you might want the other protest group,The Tea Party.
Congratulations for being Debt Free and without the need for Foodstamps, you must be in the 1% or you are very lucky.
I hope you do attend "Occupy Hilo. I think you might learn that there are even bigger issues than each person owing $35,446.00.
It's time we finally say ENOUGH to Corporate and Bank greed. Small Businesses need loans, and people need the jobs that Corporations exported to other countries.
Our time has come.

There is room for every one and many opinions - sorry if I come across as supporting the fringe right - not my game nor is anger. All I want is a level playing field.

See you at the park

More and more we have to depend on our communities to provide. How many people do you know that have things you need? What do you bring to the table to offer others? I feel like we will be able to depend on the government less and less for the things we need day to day. This is an interesting time in history.

So how did the march and rally at the band stand go? It was a drizzly day and I wimped out.

I wimped out too, partly the weather.
Partly doing caretaking for wounded family member and wounded cat tired me out.
And I had this gawdawful sinus headache so I didn't feel I could be that functional.

I really wanted to go and I hope we will get a report here.
