The Stolen Valor Act
#11
WHAT DO THEY SAY ? Supporter of VFW" or just "VFW Post 3830"

I guess the people who care are dying off.

I have had people tell me Fred is Army, a VietNam Vet and I believed it. His political bio tells otherwise.

"The Stolen Valor Act of 2005 was signed into law by President GW Bush on December 30th 2006 in which upgraded a previous law that addressed the problem of those unauthorized to wear, manufacture, or sell military decorations and medals."

Fred didn't make or wear a military decoration or medal. He bought a T Shirt that the VFW sells to men, women and children who attend the community breakfast. The proceeds from the sale of shirts and the breakfast go to support their various causes.

If you have an issue with that, why not go to the breakfast on the 19th complain to anyone who will listen to you.

By the way,his wife wears one of those shirts too.

If you don't like the facts, just make up new ones.[}Smile]

From the VFW national website: http://www.vfw.org/Join/Eligibility/

"Eligibility

The fundamental difference between our organization and other veterans organizations, and one in which we take great pride, is our eligibility qualifications.

VFW welcomes all who meet our eligibility criteria. It's through service to this country that all our membership has earned their elite status.

If you have received a campaign medal for overseas service; have served 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days in Korea; or have ever received hostile fire or imminent danger pay, then you're eligible to join our ranks."

I am only demonizing dishonesty.

My "agenda" is HONESTY!

wow, so lets recap the post so far:

- serving in a war gives you "honor" or "valor"

ACTUALLY, it turns out wars just kill people, as in murder, death, ending life

lets not confuse the issues here, as far as I can tell you are arguing over who gets to claim their "awesomeness" by whether or not they went somewhere outside the United States and killed someone at some point.

Okay, so great post...thanks for bringing up to everyone how Fred Blas apparently supports wars and killing people?

shades of gray? grey? Have a nice day.

Cheers

Aloha Rainyjim,
Serving in a war should give you honor and valor if you earned it. The issue here is if someone claims to have participated in a campaign (because of U.S. government issued orders) even though they did not. It is a matter of honesty. Wearing a t-shirt sold by the VFW doesn't really violate the intent of the Stolen Valor Act as I see it. It hink it means that you support your local VFW.
I'm very proud of the medals I've earned because they were hard fought to get.
We went overseas, we fought for the U.S. just so folks like you wouldn't have to if you chose not to. Your choice because you are a citizen of the U.S. during a time of no draft.
I don't know what Fred's military record is. I thought I remember seeing something about him being former Army but I truly can't remember.
I know Greggor Ilagan was in the National Guard.
kind regards,
John

John makes my point: "I don't know what Fred's military record is. I thought I remember seeing something about him being former Army but I truly can't remember".

Perhaps it comes from numerious comments about Fred and the VFW, I know I had assumed he was an Army vet also because of that.

Fred was not in any branch of the military, according to his bio information, but he apparently wants people to mistakenly believe he was (and vote for him).
Is what ever works good politics?
We will have to wait and see.

A lot of assumptions there PauHana.
Assume the best and ask questions.

I have read all these responses and now have a personal question -

My Dad (a VFW member having served in Korea) had his VFW tshirts and a cap. When he passed away, my mom gave me a whole stack of his almost new Tshirts for my hubby including the VFW tshirts. My brother took the cap.

So should my hubby wear them (usually to work) or not?

A T-shirt is not a part of any kind of uniform that I am aware of.

Sea Side Bob doesn't usually wear a shirt but wearing your Father's shirts is not an assault on the "Stolen Valor Act"

PauHana needs to get a life !!
