How do you get a "Building Exemption" or a "Land Exemption" on your property taxes?

Go to the County Bldg - Property Tax Dept. On Aupuni St. & ask them for an exemption form. Fill it out & turn it in. They'll tell you what you might be qualified for re: exemptions & when it'll take effect.

You will get different answers if you do this "at the counter" vs "mailing it in".

At the counter, they will run your TMK on the spot, and if no permits, they say "how can you be resident without any house?"

Mail it in, they send someone to see if it looks like some kind of "living there" is happening.

If you're way up some gnarly "private" roads, call the guy after you mail it in, he might be willing to take your word for it and save himself the trip.
