I for one would support this use. As others have mentioned, with limited facilities, and our state having the highest rate of diabetes in the nation, we need more services geared to medical care. Kidney disease is a top by-product of diabetes. Even using the hardcore antibiotics used to cure MRSA is very very hard on the kidneys and can cause them to shut down.

Maybe we get better services, we night attract more kidney doctors, or at least more than this island has now which is ONE.

My question to Rene is - if they get approved and if they failed in a few years, can the facility be turned into some thing we do not want in Pahoa? Is there a special use permit attached to this rezoning?

As I understand it, the request was for a straight rezone to CV, which would have permitted any future use compliant with CV... but, without a wastewater system that can support the "commercial" uses, the parcel remains RS, which would (for example) allow a very large "residential" home, that could later be SUP'd into a business (at least an "office" use, which could be supported by a septic system).
