most newer vehicles come with daylight running (head) lights..in my vehicle driver has no option to turn them off

I thought in some states it was 1/2 hr before to 1/2 hr after. In Fla. it now says sunset and sunrise and then specifically includes twilight, describing that as the time after sunset and full dark. I believe it also includes any other time visibility is below 500'.

There is probably instructions in your owners manual on how to defeat that feature. However, if you disconnect the battery or it goes completely dead, you will have to defeat it again. On will be the default in the car's computer.

I frequently don't use me seatbelt and do a far share of paying tickets, but then again, Im going to die on my motorcycle as I have been told 5-6 times per day.

Back to the topic...

I totally agree with Hunt, and I see this all the time. It's not a comparison of mainland intelligence vs island intelligence, or west side versus east side. It's just basic frickin' common sense, somehow lacking here in spades.

I don't drive that much, and when I do it's usually around dusk to head out for social stuff. Regularly, I'm completely amazed at the lack of awareness, by many drivers, of the other vehicles around them.

It would be breathtakingly fun to see a police officer giving someone a ticket for this. I doubt that will happen; I've seen police officers doing this very same thing.

The only way to get them to do it is embarrass them into doing it. I may write a letter to the Tribune Herald about it. You always run the risk of appearing like the town goody goody (or pansy), but I may do it anyway. It's simple common sense to make people visible at dusk. And it is my business. When some jerk plows into the side of my car because I didn't see him, I'll wish I had.

I totally agree with Hunt. I drive a little roadster and it is silver. I have my lights on anytime I drive so all you folks out there that are laughing can see me. And you don't want to get me going on the crazy drivers here in Puna. If I had my way everyone would go through an extensive drivers ed class that lasted at least a year. And while you are in class I can drive feeling safe!!!!
