We must be acting like a huge heat sink, sucking heat away from the midwest. Yeah, this 83 is a killer. 7 in Minnesota right now and some people around here complain about Hawaii.

Add a negative sign to that 58 and you have an idea of North Slope "cold." I am up in Waipio right now, head home Friday, to the slope Monday. It will be a temperature change in excess of 120 degrees.

Not wishing to put a damper on things, but I know this has caught people out before and I also know many people here realize this already. These records are for the particular day of the year only and not record lows or highs ever experienced. Thought I'd mention this in case some have the wrong idea.

I've seen the odd local and particularly excitable bloggers claim that all records were broken when 3 inches of rain fell one day and I think most people know that's hardly close to a record for the island. I've never understood the local media or even the meteorologists for posting this kind of daily record stuff, never experienced it elsewhere, but there you go.

OK, back to regular stuff, sorry for the interruption...
