What did you miss the most?

I want to take my dog swimming with me. Hes a tiny dog (20 lbs), but loves the water. Sand is over rated, only my wife likes laying there for no reason, id rather be swimming, snorkeling, kayaking Smile

When we lived in Keaukaha in Hilo there was a place right in front of our Condo where many people net fished, swam with their dogs and put in Kayaks when the waves that broke on the outer rocks weren't huge. It is makai of the middle one of the 3 condos there, the Hale Moana, the one with the swimming pool with a turtle design and big blu vertical stripes. Just park on the street or in the public parking lot one lot towards HIlo from it, and walk in along the tree line on the left side as you face the ocean (not the public ocean access path off the parking lot). All kinds of people used that area, including more than one wedding!

I moved from living on miles of beach on the mainland. I miss walking on beaches for hours at a time...long beaches with sand.
I love walking next to the water on the cliffs here, but it is not the same as the sand...

I miss the convenience of driving a few hours and being in a large city with every kind of item you need, rather than having to wait to have the item or part shipped. Getting obscure things fixed, like kilns or grinders or getting parts for specific art tools rather than having to ship new ones over. Buying glass and art supplies and art tools.

Getting reliable folks who actually show up when they say they will...to deliver stuff, to do odd jobs... However, I have learned to be kind and patient and grateful when they do make an appearance, which is a good life lesson. :-)

Good health care and primary providers to chose from. Good specialists that you don't have to wait months to see on Oahu.

Dog friendly areas, including dog friendly beaches.

None of the above are anything I can't live without, but things I miss.
Can't have it all, but you can have most of it :-)
I am so lucky I live here!
