@Kathy H
I believe the best way to term your "diatribe" is "hypocrite'
@opihikao
I can appreciate your knowledge of Rob. Can you appreciate my knowledge of Tiffany?
What I truly read here - between all the lines and words - is simple "jealousy"
And its clear at least to me - why PUNA will never amount to anything, will always be what it always has been.

Ken, It doesn't surprise me that Tiffany has her supporters. That is fine. You seem to share Tiffany's disgust for criticism and consider any critical remarks as lacking in judgement or value.
Tiffany has created her varied camps of supporters and critics by her own actions.
Her performance as a journalist has been questionable to to me on a number of levels. She published gossip without making any effort to check facts. When she gets her hands on an email - private conversations - she publishes those without checking with the source. On one occasion I asked her if I could tell her something "off the record". She said I could. I was curious about her integrity. She immediately published what I told her..... which told me a lot about her.
So for those supporters - by all means vote for her. Others can and will make up their own minds and should be able to do so without being attacked. My prediction is that this candidacy will provide a bit of a shock. I do not think she will do as well as James Weatherford did.
It is my experience that having an internet presence is a poor substitute for grassroots support. The Puna internet community is small and not at all representative of the overall district.
Assume the best and ask questions.

jealousy? wow I hadn't thought of that one.
thanks Cathy!
@Rob
I agree about the Puna internet community being a poor substitute.
However that being said, AND excepting the ones just too stupid to not vote, I believe there would be more mainstream support for Tiffany versus the handful of those on PW who don't support her.

Ruderman seems to believe that eco-villages may be a good idea.
I believe that "the community" should leave my subdivision alone.
As long as there is no clear consensus among the believers, Puna will continue to be Puna.

OMG!!!
Voters, that's who!
IT is their job, more than that it's their duty to the society and the next generation.
Elections are all about judging candidates.

Perfectly said.
However the reality is the idiots who DON'T vote or the really stupid ones who vote for a really worthless candidate to spite the best candidate.
That is why we consistently end up with what we always get!!

Councilman Zendo Kern is not an idiot by any measure. He's an intelligent guy. Gained some real respect on the Planning Commission. Two years ago Tiffany was a major Kern supporter. She was for a time his campaign manager.
I don't yet know if Zendo is running for reelection. If and when he is we can start a topic on Zendo. I am curious about Tiffany's position on Zendo Kern, why she thinks she is better and a lot of things. I haven't yet seen any published positions from Tiffany. There are a number of hot button local issues. It will be interesting to see where she stands. IF someone can find a link to her positions please post it.

I posted my observations based on 2 1/2 years of on and off interaction and witnessing events through the blog and Facebook.
I am not jealous. I do not pretend to be perfect. I am not running for public office, nor would I wish to.
opihikao, pardon me for using the informal term. I was actually borrowing from Tiffany's vocabulary IIRC, just trying to keep it light. No disrespect meant for the office. A gig is an obligation to show up and perform as promised.
I'm not judging Tiffany as a person here. I'm looking at the temperamental aspects that she would bring with her to the job. The office is not Mayor, not head honcho position. It's the Council. I respect that Tiffany can be a strong advocate. That is a strength. I respect that she has charisma, energy, and makes things happen, that she writes articulately if not always persuasively. I believe that her heart is more or less in the right place, but I think her vision is skewed towards what she is predisposed to believe in. Many or most of us are, but the ability to truly listen is still vital in a representative.
A seat on the Council means she will be working with people as equals (while keeping in mind her junior status) and getting their support. Diplomacy, discretion, trust, boundaries, ability to listen and to take constructive criticism are key qualities.
Pride, ego, narrowness of vision in terms of centering on your own position, refusal to discuss things, either flaring up or shutting down when she responds emotionally, having a mercurial attitude towards promises she makes of confidentiality -- all of these tendencies will work against Tiffany forming productive bonds with her peers. No bonds, no one gives her what she wants.
That is my concern. I've also heard her complain many times in the last two years that she has taken on too much, so I question why someone who publicly announces they are in an overload state thinks it is a good time to run for office.
Issues are important, but all politicians make issue and position statements, and most never make a difference as promised or envisioned. Getting people who are not your fans to do what you want is an art. I could see things starting out well, but as time went by and people burned out on working with a prima donna, I think the bloom on the rose would fade fast.
I'm entitled to my opinion. Even though she is not running for my district, my Councilperson will be working alongside the two Puna reps, so I certainly do have an interest in who comprises the whole Council, even though I can only vote for my own Councilperson.
I try to discuss these things without making personal attacks on the people with opinions, Ken and opihikao. I didn't see any response to my actual points. I saw an attack on my wording, an accusation against my personality, an accusation of hypocrisy and jealousy. Why is it so difficult to respond to the points, without seeking to discredit the person? Ad hominem attacks are not the best way to debate.

This is more about all candidates in general not just Tiffany.
It takes a lot of guts to put your life out there.
Don't kid yourself any elected office is a double full time job. Ducking in to get a gallon of milk can take an hour when everyone stops you to say their piece. There is always something "important that has to be done right now, and some community meeting you cannot miss. Even if you work 80 hours a week and put in 100% people will say you are not doing anything, you cannot please all of the people all of the time, and you cannot please some of the people any of the time. .
Going into politics is a personal sacrifice. It is not something I would advise a person with small children to do, because it is not you the politician/parent who ends up making the biggest personal sacrifice.
People get caught up in politics, it consumes their life, but in reality it is never that important. Can anyone name the sixth emperor of Rome, or the Puna Councilman forty two years ago, or what either did? The answer is no one, except perhaps the Councilman's daughter who remembers he wasn't there to hear her sing in the school play.
If you choose this life, this is something to think about.
When you get old you will read this poem and start to cry. Because you will realize it is about you.
To My Grown-Up Child
My hands were busy through the day;
I didn’t have much time to play
The little games you asked me to.
I didn’t have much time for you.
I’d wash your clothes, I’d sew and cook,
But when you’d bring your picture book
And ask me please to share your fun
I’d say: “A little later, son.”
I’d tuck you in all safe at night
and hear your prayers, turn out the lights,
Then tip toe softly to the door…
I wish I’d stayed a minute more.
For life is short, the years rush past…
A little boy grows up so fast.
No longer is he at your side
His precious secrets to confide.
The picture books are put away,
There are no longer games to play,
No good-night kiss,
No prayers to hear…
That all belongs to yesteryear.
My hands, once busy, now are still,
The days are long and hard to fill,
I wish I could go back and do
The little things you asked me to.
