Zendo's greatest criticism from Tiffany and others stems around he not being visible. On a related note, we know that there are politicians who appear at many events, who themselves are largely ineffective. To me, what's more important is substance. Let's judge the incumbent Kern on his merits and accomplishments more so than his public visibility. Anyone with information on this care to answer? What has he done in his freshman campaign? Would a second term mean? Is he accessible?

I really appreciate Greggor Ilagan, especially his willingness to listen to everyone, learn the pros and cons of issues, and vote based on facts rather than the roar of the crowd. A certain female blogger has vilified him in public settings, primarily since as a candidate he told her he wasn't aware of the issues in a certain Pahoa rezoning but he'd get back to her after researching it. And when he did, he said unfortunately, he couldn't support her position. She's been unbelievably rude and reported negatively on him ever since.
Good luck on us getting Puna council reps willing to work together....
BTW, if a blogger gets elected to public office, what's the ethics on them continuing editorial commentary on the other public officials? I don't think there are any laws on this and wonder what people's take is on such a situation.

I got a bad taste in my mouth about Zendo when he first took office. Other administration officials took voluntary furlough days or worked without pay when union members were compelled to take their furlough days/pay cut. Zendo's comment (as reported in July 17, 2013 Tribune herald): “I’m making the council my full-time job, and I wouldn’t want to have to be looking for other work. I just want to keep my focus on the council.” Asked what kind of message that sent to staff working for him, Kern replied, “I think the staff needs a pay raise.” I'm sure the lower level employees considered their jobs full time employment and didn't want to look for supplemental work either...But they didn't have the luxury of choice (To be fair, several other council members also didn't take the furloughs, but most attributed it to unintentional bureaucratic mix ups)
And then there was the $500-1000 per person fundraiser Zendo had planned in Kona that got cancelled once the press got wind of it...(just 3 months after taking office...). Also makes one go "Hmmm..."

As far as substantive accomplishments, I'd have to agree -- but Zendo hasn't been idle!
He
introduced Bill 96, which made it as far as the Council agenda (August 6, 2013).
Zendo was also instrumental in bringing several
rezoning actions to the Council, many of which address the shortage of commercial real estate in Hilo...

I do not like people putting words in my mouth. If I have something to say I will say it. You can speak for yourself, I'm not inclined speak for you. Do it again though and you will find yourself on a Punaweb vacation.
As for Greggor or Zendo "doing nothing".... that might well be in the eye of the beholder. I am expecting that they can each speak for themselves as to what they feel they have accomplished.

I have differed with her on issues and bore the backlash but just today on an issue in Hawaiian Acres, I suggested they contact Tiffany to support the issue. She has the clout.
I told them point blank that if she agreed with what they are trying to do, she would probably fight tooth and nail to help their cause.
On occasion before, I have referred people to Brian Delima who is an incredible ... lets say assertive attorney... so like Brian, everyone has a talent and one of Tiffany's is fighting for what she believes it right.
Ann Richards, a past gov of Texas, said she "also could dance backwards and in high heels" and was ... hmmmm..... strong-willed.
The movie reference was for those of you who watched old musicals, and Ann used it to describe herself back in a more chauvinistic time period.
