No I will never get younger.I never had a job that paid 50 k why start now? I've looked at shipping a car 3 day drive to long beach.1 thousand + to ship car, don't see the value in that.I know car prices are high there.I'll take my chances,I'll start with a yamaha tw200 seems I can get one in Kona.I'm very patient and determined.I've got my smile packed already and always have a good attitude.No one mentioned rain gear I guess that's a no brainer 150 inches of rain and no rain gear!Dumb question/wouldn't a car/truck made in Japan cost less in Hawaii than in Pittsburgh?guess I mean shouldn't it cause apparently it doesn't.I know how to live cheaply anywhere.I have seen on this forum people say puna is cheaper than L.A.I didn't have a problem there.I paid enough rent there in 1 year to buy 3 acres in Hawaiian acres!I realize there are no jobs to speak of.I have extensive food service experience and would be willing to ride the tw to Hilo if need be although I see there are some restaurants in Pahoa.I also do awesome restoration work patch and paint anything,refinish wood floors,lay tile land scape etc.I've heard 80 percent of life is showing up and I ALWAYS show up.I do not fear a rough start because I will prevail.Puna and Pele are just going to have to tolerate me for the rest of my life.Now every one at once (he'll be gone in 2 years)If my extensive calculations are correct Puna fits me and I fit Puna.Now if that plane will just hold together I'll be there end of May.Anyone think T.S.A will have a problem with me boarding wearing a life jacket and swim fins.[8)][8D]

Gypsy, jeans and flannel That's how I dress here.I'm only bringing swim trunks and rubba slippa and 10 can openers.Really good advise though I have many vintage Woolrich lightweight wool shirts They seem to be going for good prices on eBay I'm selling some but I will keep a few.I'll even bring one for you if you can wear a large?

Don't bring any rain gear like a raincoat or even a poncho. Its much too warm for these. People use umbrellas, but often times people just run to their vehicle or from their vehicle to wherever they are going. A lot of times people just wait until it stops. It can rain for hours sometimes, but much of the time its a pretty short shower. And remember the rain is warm. You get a little wet, no big deal.

I'll take you up on that fishing Gypsy.I'm definitely going to bring some lightweight breathable rain gear gotta have it if your gonna ride a cycle though it's good to know I might not need for much else.The next wife will be the first and yes I fear maybe the wrong one.I've had my chances but chronic cold feet syndrome has always saved me.Maybe a little regret once in a while but I get over it quickly by doing what I want when I want with no children either the freedom is addictive.No one to tell me I'm a crazy fool to put it all on the line and move to Puna.Just that little voice in my head which I learned to ignore along time ago.Really can't wait to get there and get started.Thanks again all for the great info

& Don't bring a suitcase...go for the biggest box your airline will allow - on this trip, the cubic inches really do matter...so even if it is LINEAR inches, do the math & get the most cubic inches for your checked luggage (62 linear is common, but the cubic inches of a 21x21x20 box are enough different from a 32x20x10 suitcase...)

Oh, we have always used a hand crank can opener & found out that the good ol' openers of yore switched to an off-shore mfg. a few years ago...the newer ones with the ol' trusty name are far inferior...but the old plant is still cranking out good ol' can openers, just under a different name, so we order a replacement from the new named ol US plant...& it works like the old ones!

Money does help, but DH lucked out & did get the same type of job at over 2x his mainland pay...but on the wrong side of the island! sometimes you get what you ask for, so be VERY specific! ;~)

This has been my experience too. I do have a rain jacket, but when I'm using it, it usually means I'm working outside. If I'm working outside, I'm usually sweating. If I'm sweating, my shirt is going to get drenched anyway. So I don't think I've ever taken off my rain jacket after it's kept me dry. I guess it can be a little useful in certain circumstances. After all, there are times and locations where you want to retain as much heat as possible, even if you're wet.

As for jobs: I always notice a Help Wanted poster on Panda Express. It's not much, but it's a job...
