Tiffany Edwards Hunt running for Council
@LD and KH

All you have offered is sheer inane babble.

Tiffany will be D5's next Council Member.

Kathy was a big supporter of Tiffany until Tiff call BS on Kathy's "armchair detective" work awhile back. Kathy is one of those who is offended by Tiffany's brutal honesty and no one should expect anything positive. So far her criticism is centered on some typos.

Instead of repeating ad nauseam Tiffany's editing problems, I'd like to hear from Kathy why exactly she would support someone else. (Because they're not Tiffany, perhaps, and haven't criticized Kathy?)

Who do you support Kathy, and why?

Ken, your opinion of my mental clarity is irrelevant. I was blessed in this life to be raised by a brilliant logician, who taught me how to see through flawed arguments. Yours are of such little substance that it is not even worth engaging with most of them. I think you have it in you to move beyond deflection and ad hominem attacks, but you seem to derive your online pleasure from this mode.

I have been blessed to work with some of the more brilliant minds in this country, and none of them found that I offered "inane babble." Thus your name-calling is not likely to affect me.

I suppose I should consider it a compliment that you and snorkle feel so much need to attack and discredit me. You both appear very threatened by my comments, such that you expend a lot of energy trying to misrepresent my points, hoping to confuse people? You don't give Punaweb readers enough credit.

snorkle, your understanding of my past relationship with Tiffany is completely incorrect. You could not be more wrong, but that is not surprising, because you were never part of it.

This topic is not about my relationship with Tiffany, so I'm not going to jump through your hoop in a long defense against your silly assumptions.

I will say that I admire candor (brutal honesty). Unfortunately, I found Tiffany LACKING in candor, unable to be straightforward and take ownership of some of her actions.

As I said in my first comment here, I was from the first predisposed to admire Tiffany, but she lost my respect along the way. It was NOT due to any criticism of my thinking on the Royal murder. I respect differing opinions. I had been troubled by what I saw her doing long before that.

Her behavior at the end of that case troubled me in that she appointed herself as the keeper of the truth and told people to believe her without offering any facts to support herself. This is definitely not a personality trait that I would appreciate in an elected official.

Aside from that, I no longer have any faith that Tiffany won't delude herself into blurring ethical boundaries. I have seen her cite ethics on her blog and then blur or ignore the boundaries repeatedly.

Who do I like in the Puna race? I am waiting to hear from the other candidates. Right now, all I know is that Tiffany is the wrong choice for this position, and it is indeed a concern that Zendo is not running again, as I have a good opinion of him from what I have seen.

Who and what do I support? I already listed qualities I admire in Val Poindexter, my representative.

snorkle, you must have heard the old lawyer's adage (of many variants).

If the facts are not on your side, argue the law.
If the law is not on your side, argue the facts.
If neither the facts nor the law are on your side, make an ad hominem attack.

A lot of people, when they see repeated ad hominem attacks such as yours and Ken's, understand that you are resorting to attacking me because you have nothing better to offer as a response.

The fallacy in your logic is that I'm not asking anyone to take my word on Tiffany's character, so what anyone thinks of me is beside the point.

The flaws I am talking about and that others here have experienced are for the most part public and in print. I am only pointing to what can be plainly seen if people choose to look at the record. Even if my motives were as petty as you claim (they are not), that would have no bearing on the public record she has created with her blog and other venues, which supports my points. You need to engage with the negative parts of her record, not with me.

Ditto for those of you who attack Rob for having an unwavering opinion about her suitability. Don't attack Rob for expressing his viewpoint. Look at the points he is making.

I actually supported Tiffany on Punaweb in her fight against rezoning, which I can readily admit I regret. I didn't want to believe she could be making her argument about the potential for a slaughterhouse on Main Street out of pure fear of competition. As I said, I was predisposed to think she was the pillar of righteousness she claimed to be. I later saw that she absolutely would do whatever it takes to protect her family's business.

Every single thing that Tiffany does for the community, either benefits her economic existence or boosts her ego. I know people on this island who volunteer tirelessly, who have done so for years, who don't advertise what they do. When praised, they point out the actions of a fellow volunteer and say credit this person.

Every community effort that Tiffany partakes in, she has made sure to advertise on her blog. To me that says she has been building a resume. This is the election year that she pulls out the resume and uses it as a stepping stone to a job that she wants. Councilperson is a job that will pay extremely well relative to her current situation, and is a position that will boost her ego to the moon (at first).

If you want me to believe that Tiffany has worked selflessly for the community, show me the list of her efforts that were never publicized.

First off, I can say that you clearly have very thin skin.

I do not feel ANYTHING I have said is a personal nor is it in any way an ad hominem attack against you.

What I feel EVERYTHING I have said about your stance is that it is irrelevant minutia.

And further, this is NOT your District. You don't live here. You don't vote here.

Additionally, I find your attacks against Tiffany to be nothing but pure ad hominem attacks directly against Tiffany.

I know who you are. I have defended you against some of the most disgusting residents of Puna. Tiffany went to bat for you.

And then you resort to this "she should not be elected because she misspelled Puna" nonsense. As I stated several pages back, this is truthfully more about sheer jealousy as well as reminiscent of a 3rd grade school playground battle.

And then, I find it very ironic and very interesting that of all the declared candidates for D5, you only seem consumed on derailing Tiffany. With nothing but ridiculous irrelevant issues.

Funny too, is that in the District you live, you once had a very head strong, opinionated, 3 term council member who lived and breathed the very essence of "my way or the highway" and yet you never once said anything about him.

In conclusion, your endless posting of irrelevant issues with respect to Tiffany's campaign is ONLY and SOLEY due to Tiffany in some way turning her back on you. You could no longer "ride that wave."

So your way of dealing with that is to point our a misspelled word.

Thank god you have nothing to do with D5.

Furthermore, I was raised by a father who owned a very large construction company. I had to go to school and become a CPA, as he planed on me being the CFO. After I did that, and became a CPA, he made me go back to school and become a lawyer. He said he changed his mind and wanted me to be the Company's legal counsel. So I did that.

Then after that, he told me - "you cant run this company until you know what we do." So at 32 years of age, I became an Electrician Apprentice. After 4 years, I 'carded out" and became a full fledge Electrician Journeyman.

Then my father said - OK, now you have to run a project. Successfully. Profitably. And with NO WORKERS INJURED.

So, I went and did that.

And then finally at 45 years of age, he said he wanted to retire.

And then, he said I was to young to be CEO. So he named a non-family member as his successor.

Then he died.

And left the company to myself and my 3 brothers. 25% each.

That's when I, at 55 years old, became the CEO.

Then I retired. At 60. My 3 brothers took the company over.

And then a drunk killed them.

And I had to come back out of retirement and take the company back over.

All that experience has put me in touch with thousands of people world wide. I have worked with some of the most brilliant minds in the world.

And I can smell, taste, hear, see, feel and know - with 100% certainty what sheer inane babble is.

I had to recheck the title of this thread to make sure it wasn't "biographies of people who are not running for this council seat".

So, are there any people that aren't running for their own advancement or self enrichment that are intelligent, rational, logical, civic minded and honest?

I think the last candidate I can remember that fit that requirement was Patsy Mink.

After she died.

And yet this State elected her.

I can't think of ANY candidate to ANY elected office who does not possess the attributes of "their own advancement or self enrichment that are intelligent, rational, logical, civic minded and honest?"

The question the electorate must decide is who is the best one for the job. (That hopefully is still alive on election day.)

KathyH, you mentioned the lack of family time for an elected official, and how she tends to get frustrated and quit things that she gets involved in. I believe she would quit this position, not too far in.

Her own words, from her own BIO, on her own blog:
http://www.bigislandchronicle.com/about/

"Edwards Hunt had a year and a half hiatus from news writing and commentary while working as a legislative aide for Puna Councilwoman Emily Naeole. Edwards Hunt vacated island politics to spend more quality time with her family, to more effectively manage her and her husband’s business and to pursue work on this very website."

Everyone who reads her blog can the recall numerous times she has complained about the lack of family time due to running the blog, writing and publishing her little newspaper (which she mentioned wanting to quit after just a couple months), etc. I cannot see this being any different; possibly much more so.
