It is at least a 20 minute travel time from the pahoa firehouse, there's no mystery in how the thing got cooking.

Wow, the loss of another Puna tourist attraction. What can Puna do to restore this showcase of Hawaiian architecture and culture. There should be a charity drive in HPP to collect excess building materials in any old empty lot there and a community effort of aloha to rebuild. This time, maybe we can get a Noah's ark replica, which will also be useful if there is a tsunami.

Seaview could rebuild the heritage tourist attraction by charging $1 for every car that enters the subdivision; it's private property and all that.

If it's a tourist attraction they really need to let people walk up to the third floor for the view. Maybe with a glass bottom overlook, or a swing out panel like the one that just opened in the John Hancock building in Chicago. And coin operated binocular viewers for a quarter a minute. Can you see Kehena Beach from there? Then 50 cents.

TinK - yes, the report did mention at least one very common accelerant was present, the propane tank... one that most of us have in or very near to our structure...the question the Fire Marshal must determine is if this was an intentionally set fire...
As soon as a fire reaches the temperature when "off gas" of aromatics occur, then things like flashover can happen, and with the winds that were available yesterday, there was more than sufficient O2 & obviously sufficient fuel was available... only question is whether there was any intentional fuel added... If the owner of that 3 story tool shed had not placed appropriate fire stops (& probably did not)... well, this type of fire is very common in "balloon" construction techniques, why they are not permitted in most areas Desert

Yes Carey, flash over is the problem when the gas content exceeds the oxygen content for a moment, and all heck breaks loose inside when that happens. Plus it being a tool shed implies that paints, thinners, etc. we're also stored within, adding to the flames. Sure the propane bottle expedited things, but it would have blown the 3rd floor apart, and what caused it to go? It being a tool shed more than likely gave the fire department a "surround and drown", or just make sure it does't spread approach. Somebody claimed loud voices were heard. What was your first instinct? (All). I bet you thought argument. Could be "get out! It's on fire! Easy how things can get spun. Fortunately, no life was lost, and the building game continues.
