Tiffany Edwards Hunt running for Council
JohnDW,
your comments (on the various topics you posted on) are most astute. You nailed it.
Mr. Law sounds promising. Looking forward to hearing more.

Indubitably!

Well I guess the HACA board received a letter from Tiffany saying (and this is the gist not a direct quote) that she believed in the democratic process but did not believe in a few dissident board members calling for removal of the board because of the issues. (Remember the AG is involved here and not on the Board Majority side.)

Is that political speak or what?

I really did have expectations that Tiffany would come out for financial transparency, permit completions, and community reinvestment.

The majority of the Board approved $5000 for a attorney to respond to the AG inquiry. Why not spend the money on an audit instead?

I would think the most important question is what has Zendo done about it?

And then, with respect to the candidacy of our next council, what have all the others said?

Then again, I would think a direct quote, or even a copy of the letter Tiffany allegedly wrote would be nice to see, since despite there being several threads about the issues facing HACA as well as HARC no one has really ever spelled out just exactly what is going on.

Yes, seeing the actual letter would be nice.

I have no idea where Zendo lives, but Ken, YOU claim to live in Hawaiian Acres. (see post, linked above)
So what have YOU done about the situation in Hawaiian Acres?
You even claim to be a lawyer?

Why yes, leilanidude, I do live in the Acres. And I am a lawyer. Not admitted in Hawaii however.

I do pay my annual dues - both to HACA and to HARC.

I have really no issue to complain about the roads where I live. Nor do I have the time to spend on these association boards as I had to come out of retirement when a drunk driver killed my 3 brothers. As such, I spend most of my days off island on the mainland - flying back and forth every few weeks.

Now, as it has been stated over and over, even I am NOT running for office!

PS - Does not matter where Zendo lives. He is the current D5 representative!

The letter from Tiffany was read at the HACA board meeting on May 6 - I called to get a copy and was told this letter could not be released but I am not a HACA member. I cant find any minutes for this meeting.

As of yesterday, the AG said to the Board "produce a correct membership list" by 5/21 at noon or face real consequences.

It might be easier to ask TEH for it if someone can do so.

I'm new to Puna, it would be helpful if people listed specific things about the candidates so I can really learn what they are all about....

Trying my best to make an informed decision

Go to one of the many forums where you and others will be able to ask questions of the candidates for your council district and state rep seats. Not everyone shows up to each forum, but that says something about the candidates who never show up to any of them to answer questions from voters.

I agree with Carol, going to a community forum is a great thing to do. Ideal to combine that with some research (such as you are doing), as candidates always have their charm and enthusiasm turned on for the forums (as they should).

I recently read something (and now can't find it) that spoke to me about why character and personality traits matter. The gist of it was: even though candidates for office run on platforms of various positions they will take and changes they will bring about, the fact is that very few politicians bring their platform goals to a reality.

What really determines whether a candidate will be effective in office is not the stance on issues so much as character and ability to work effectively with others. Respect for other people, ability to negotiate compromises, knowing when to push and when to hold back, ability to see the big picture along with attention to details -- these are some qualities that impress me favorably.

(I like RJ's statement, am waiting to hear others.)
