Tiffany Edwards Hunt running for Council
Puna deserves a sane adult. Tim Law -- I've gotten to know him much better since my last post -- fills that bill. I wonder if there are enough people in district five who value someone who with his qualifications? I worry that while everyone is enjoying their myriad schoolyard scuffles, the adults over in Oahu will simply come and do as they please. Tim Law understands this district, and he knows the difference between dreams and reality. He can work with other adults to shape the future in ways that will benefit district five residents for generations to come, while helping his constituents attain a better way of life in the here and now.

I can't find Tim Law online. How does one contact him or find out more?

Maybe Tim Law should have his own topic, not that his campaign is gearing up and people here are talking about him?

I've been following Tiffany's official page to see if she posts anything of substance, and I honestly don't understand what passes for a campaign website here.

Her last post, about door to door canvassing (good thing to do), notes successful interactions as:
quote:
I met a certain elderly woman in Mountain View who looked at me and said, ÒYou will get in; you look sincere, I can tell.Ó And her neighbor commented on what Ògood energyÓ I had. I met a boy who was so intrigued by my ÒHunt for PunaÓ campaign slogan, he lit up when I offered him a bumper sticker (and a voter registration form). Then in Aloha Estates I met a family who had seen my ÒHunt for PunaÓ signs around and felt so satisfied to have the mystery solved.

Is that really the criterion for votes in Puna, "looking" sincere and perception of "good energy"? Campaign signs, slogans, and bumper stickers? She spends more time talking about her signage than any candidate I've ever seen.

I thought the hippy movement was a wonderful thing when I was 16, and it was new and seemed to be changing society in needed ways, but all these years later, this kind of talk does nothing for me. Especially when I know that this positive energy stuff flips off like a switch with Tiffany if she encounters criticism or opposition.

I do think it's a positive to go out in the community and talk to people and listen. If I had faith that her follow up on what she learns would be even-handed and effective, and not ego-driven, I would be more supportive.

I guess I'm just curious if the stuff on her campaign page is wowing anyone here (other than Ken and snorkle [Wink] who as we know are huge fans). As far as I can tell, Tiffany feels that repeating this type of support is somehow impressive, or why else would she post it?

Kathy, are you really criticizing Tiff's web comments and yet seeing Tim Law, with his non-existent web presence, as worthy of consideration? It's clear you oppose Tiffany - So don't vote for her, and get over it. Say something positive about someone if that's a possibility for you. If you can only support an elusive, ephemeral candidate who has said and done nothing, that scares me.

Major jumping to conclusions. Where do you get your statement that I'm supporting Law? I noted there is a discussion about Law gearing up in a topic dedicated to Tiffany and titled as such. For the sake of organization and keeping this thread on topic, this official candidate should have his own thread. That is what I said.

I know nothing about him yet. That is why I didn't start a topic for him. I left it to the people in this topic who said good things about him. Interesting that you're jumping on me hard and you say I'm scaring you by supporting Law, but you say nothing to those posters before me who were posting in his favor. Looks like your reaction is really to the Hunt website critique.

I'm focusing on Hunt because she is one of the frontrunners, and it's appropriate to look at the people who are perceived as in the lead. If Law gains a lot of momentum based on no substance, I'd not be happy with that, for sure.

Are you seriously saying that the public can't comment on politicians unless they have something positive to say about them? Really? Hunt is a politician now, by her own choice.

I have lots of positive things to say about people, but you wouldn't know that because you don't know me, have never been in a room with me. This is a politics forum, not a "let's praise our politicians" forum.

You said of Law and his candidacy: "an elusive, ephemeral candidate who has said and done nothing," and followed that with the commandment "Say something positive about someone if that's a possibility for you." Do you mean I should follow your example of positive commentary in your own post? [:0]

Talk about scary. You tell me that I can express themselves with a vote, but otherwise shut up? The First Amendment is exactly so that people can talk freely about politicians and issues. Would you like it if I told you to shut up and vote, and not further express your feelings on the candidates?

It is interesting that the Punaweb posters who support Hunt get irate and go into attack mode when she is criticized, considering that type of behavior is one of the main problems people have with this candidate (not just me, if you've paid attention).

I asked a serious question and I asked it in a civil fashion.
I really want to know if voters like the sort of material and focus she is posting on her campaign page, and find it substantial. You could have simply said yes or no and given reasons, rather than jumping on me and insulting me.

I've been meaning to ask, are you from Mendocino? (raised my kids there)

I was at the District 5 Candidate Forum tonight in Pahoa. Didn't ask any questions, just listened. Didn't think I'd have much to post.

Had a typical Tiffany Hunt moment though. She came up to me with a smile saying she didn't have any animosity toward me. After I didn't reciprocate in less than a minute she was threatening to sue me. What a gal.

Tim Law ..."an elusive, ephemeral candidate who has said and done nothing,".

All those who somehow distrust anointed career politicians, and seek out alternatives may want to read my post in Candidate Forums. It's well-taken that Mr. Law should have his own thread. I'll take it upon myself to do so -- without Tim's consent by the way. Here goes.
