Safeway gas
#11
I downloaded their Just4U app on my iPhone. It gives you steep discounts on some things that you buy most often and also tells you what is on sale more generally for affinity card holders. It automatically gives you the discount at the register.

And then, you get a discount at the pump based on your purchases. I have had as much as a 30 cent per gallon discount. I would rather patronize a local store, but Safeway reeled me in with the combo of special prices tailored to my buying habits and the cheapest price on gas. I have never had to wait in line there for more than 5 minutes and usually just pull right up. On rare instances when there is a line, I put off getting gas until later.

Their poke (frozen then thawed) is as good as Foodland or KTA though. They just can't seem to get that right. It is pretty bad. Also they sometimes offer you discounts on the app on things this Safeway does not carry: Cheerios Protein, for example.

You have to avoid Safeway at crazy times because they really let their lines get long, and if you have cold things in your basket wagon, that is not good. Also, I find it inexplicable that you have to go the customer service desk to pick up Grey Goose --an item that is available on the shelf everywhere else. Please trust us Safeway -- I am not going to shove a bottle of Grey Goose into my shorts and try to leave with it without paying.

Tink - Mahalo - On average our ohana saves 10K a year by only shopping on sales, over 10 years we save 100K on everything we purchase.
Gasoline is a must,we go Hilo 3 times a week on average.
We keep the tanks on the trucks 3/4 to FULL all the time and have 25 gallon reserve at home for gen sets and mowers and other gasoline powered machines. There are luxury items we live without and this is an infatuation with our ohana, shopping on sales only and or doing with out.Gasoline is a must have,Saving 21 to 31 cents a gallon adds up quickly.

"They also have less ethanol corn syrup in their blends ."

Sorry but this just isn't true. Also if you are buying any gas with ethanol and using it in any power equipment(including generators) you are not saving any money in the long run.

Better to buy non-ethanol from one of the places that sell it even if it is more expensive.

Obie - 8% ethanol in safeway gasoline as opposed to 10% everywhere else.
35 year old 5Kw gasoline powered Onan gen with brigs motor is our old stand by gen set.
We utilize seafoam in the machines to offset the corn syrup gunk build up in the motors of all machines that use gasoline.

Okay I think early in the morning Sunday or Saturday. Now wait and fill up/ shopping. Does gasoline with high % ethanol in it mess up small engines like honda generators?

Before Safeway, I used to get gas at the Aloha stations and enjoy the 8 cent per gallon discount using their Aloha gas card. When Safeway gas opened and was a lot cheaper than that, I started getting gas at Safeway instead. Then at end of June, Aloha sent me a letter saying that for the next 3 months, the discount would be 18 cents per gallon! BUT ONLY AT THEIR STATIONS AROUND HILO (aka Safeway).

It looks like the free market system is (eventually) working.

The price at the Hilo Aloha station, after their (now) .18 discount, is $3.91... exactly the same price as Safeway users paying with cash but without any extra discounts for shopping at Safeway. (My contact lens solution at Safeway is $18. It's $8.00 at Target, or $10 less... just an example of one item price difference... generally the gas discounts are not worth paying their inflated prices unless you are going there for $5 Friday items only)

On Friday, I used a CC and no points and paid $4.01/gal. Pauls on the same day was $4.01

I only go to Safeway gas if I am going to be right there. I would rather see Paul get the money than safeway.

"Obie - 8% ethanol in safeway gasoline as opposed to 10% everywhere else"

If their gasoline is less than 10 % they are violating a state law.

Adding Seafoam to ethanol gasoline in the recommended amount of 1 oz per gallon adds at least 50 cents to the price of a gallon of gasoline.

Makes more sense to me to just buy non-ethanol gasoline for carbureted small engines.

In our humid environment the ethanol will become saturated with water and will then separate .If it separates,Seafoam will not help.

Try Berryman B-12 Chemtool. I get mine at Wallyworld. I think it's comparable to Seafoam but considerably cheaper. Overuse of either is often not good on those little rubber parts in your carbs. Sometimes, if you're lucky, a strong dose can clean out partially clogged jets and save pulling a carb. Of course once those jets are fully clogged nothing will keep you from having to pull and clean them.
