Yes, we think we are at 17 ft and 800 ft back BUT we do have a alternate location up off Hwy 130 at a friend's house, and everything ready for car in 2 big rubbermaid tubs. We could be out in just a few minutes at most. Cats- we have secured area for them on top of lid of old concrete catchment so they can stay high and dry if we leave with couple of days food in feeder.

We also are watching all the CPHC info (not as much news media as they are a little drama filled.)

I wish HPD or Civil defense would put a road block up at Hwy 137 & Kapoho Kai so that no one comes in that doesnt need to be here right now. I understand Pohiki is being closed (all county parks I believe are being closed tomorrow.)

Just thought to put some fluffy, warm blankets in the truck so if stuck, at least I'm warm! Also comforting for Keiki if stuff is literally hitting the windshield on your way out.

Here is a device my wife bought that eliminates having to stock up on batteries and a few other things :

http://www.amazon.com/Ambient-Weather-WR...title_home

For those afraid to click on links this is what it does:

Ambient Weather WR-112 Emergency Solar Hand Crank AM/FM/NOAA Weather Radio, Flashlight, Smart Phone Charger with Weather Alert, Siren

@Obie, Cool looking gadget and a fair price. I like that you can charge a cell phone with it. Very useful in an emergency situation.

For Hawaiian Shores Rec residents - According to the association office, if the power goes out, they will be rationing water so they can supply for 3 days. They may be able to hook up to a generator, but be prepared for less water to use for 3 days. If the power is still out after 3 days, I guess we're on our own.

We keep it in a window on the south side of the house and the little solar panel keeps it charged.Get pretty good radio reception in Kapoho too !!

I just spoke with Hawaiian Beaches Water Co. & she told me that they have generator backup for their 2 wells & as long as they have the deisel to run the gensets, they should be able to supply us with water. It goes without saying, of course, that it would be good to conserve water usage as much as possible, too.

Kat, make sure you consider the difficulty of getting out due to downed limbs and trees which will already be happening by the time surge arrives. During hurricanes I always took a chain saw and gas with me. On two occasions I had to chainsaw my way home (fairly extensively). Of course you will be wanting to chainsaw your way out if surge starts to encroach. I always had to work during the storms so was already out. Unless you're in an especially surge prone area (an area that tends to funnel the surge) I would think 17' would be good. Of course you have to add wave height to the surge. Are they giving any surge predictions?

Chainsaw and gas ready to go already but we would not even go up 132 past the V - we would head up Leilani Blvd to 130.

This is from surfnews.net - are hinting of rising Wed to 4’ from the top East exposures then Thursday to solid 8’ with near 12 sec. forerunners then some 4-8’ surf with 12 seconds Friday before backing down big time 3-5’ into Saturday. Add in 20-35kt winds Friday at its peak and… It’s gonna be G-Narly....
