Schatz Hanabusa Campaigning In Puna
#11
Sorry, I got this right when the event ended, but someone might still be there.

quote:
Between 2-4 pm, we expect Senator Schatz together with Senator Ruderman and Senator Kahele to be delivering ice and some other provisions to the Nanawale Community Association (14-855 Kehau Avenue in Pahoa).

My friend who forwarded this to me was in a court appearance, and didn't have access to her email until just now.

I believe this is an opportunity for Puna. Let them show what they can do in a substantial way for us...not just rhetoric! Then, we will decide who to vote for!

Sure, but try to be realistic about what US Senate does and can do. So much is about committee work and building relationships, exchanging support. It's not a case of them having instant direct power ... our Senate wasn't designed for that.

You've got to ask the County for County stuff, State for State, feds for federal, so maybe think about what in the federal arena do you want down the pipeline.

If a new Senator comes in, she can't do anything until after winning the general election and getting sworn in as a freshman senator in January, and then it's a long road to having any influence. (And as for the house she is lame duck now, and if you elect Hanabusa, then Schatz will be also.)

So be realistic in expectations of whoever you support.
And rhetoric is part of what gets things done in Washington, don't knock it entirely. [Wink]

Apparently that ***** who pulled a gun on HELCO is ruining things for others in various ways.

Security concerns high because of this event and so advance schedules are not forthcoming ... Involvement in relief efforts will continue around the community, but for now it won't be announced where to find the senator at a specific time and place. Not sure about Hanabusa, but she too is a US representative and could also be a target for some frustrated loony.

Too bad. Kudos to both of them for working the relief without proper security details.
