Maybe it's just me, but the whole "NIMBY vendetta" thing is really really old, especially when it involves repeatedly misrepresenting dead legislation.
Not just this issue, but all the politicking in Puna: different groups of people making noise about "quality of life" issues, but none of them will ever accomplish anything as long as each continues to believe that their issues are different and special.
Most, if not all, of the problems have their root cause in County inaction.
It's especially offensive when "certain people" make it their mission to tear down community services that should already have been provided with our tax dollars.
Please stop trying to gentrify Puna. Just, stop. Please.

Is that because I don't want stores, malls and people doing business all over the place? Kehena Beach is a special area and we don't need stores, roads, and parking lots covering the beautiful landscape. Try the end of the road at Uncles, or somewhere off highway 130, right up there with Hawaiian Sanctuary the Shirer and all the rest of them. Businesses should be away from Kehena Beach. We don't want to see the area turn into Waikiki, or something along that order,that caters to a new brand of Punatic. I mean Kalani has a restaurant and store. Next to Uncle Roberts it is zoned commercial. And this is beyond not in my back yard. You could say that about a lot of things like opposition to geothermal.

Businesses should be away from Kehena Beach.
This already occurs naturally because businesses don't want to fight the County SUP + State SMA and CMA process.
In any case, the right place to enshrine these protections is with a strong CC&R and/or zoning overlay on the properties to be "protected" from development.
Don't force your desires on the entire County; others might welcome a corner store.

We already have protection. It is just about Graham and Ruderman getting it.

Back in the day, I worked with his son and got to know Bob a tiny bit. He was a nice person, and yes good for the people. He will be missed.
I was not familiar with his qualities, but I want to pay my respects. He sounds like the rare politician who has served well and truly.

I stood strongly against some of what Bob Herkes worked for. Yet in the end, I realized that Bob Herkes was a good man. REst well brother. YOu did good work.
