Big Island Circus Fined $50,000 by DLNR

kalakoa, you're statement is superfluous meaning it has nothing to do with "county scams". It has to do with Graham Ellis's scams as $25,000 is a lot of money to a 501©3 con/non profit.

This is a million dollar statement. Puna loves to embrace its counter-culture identity. Puna takes pride in "not being like other districts." With so many transplants, many in Puna have NO IDEA about Politics in Hawaii and how this political history trickles down to Puna. So we elect representatives and senators that make us feel good...ones that look like us...stands up for things we believe in. Russell is very much a music playing health food businessman who got elected. He so fits the bill of Puna. But does that translate to good politics?

In Hawaii, it still is, and always will be about politics, politricks....and having friends. Be as PUNA as you want, but if you don't have others believing (or supporting) your Puna-ness, then don't be surprised when others don't support laws that would affect Puna. Us against the world? Maybe. But for reasons as plain as day: It's all about Politics and friends. There is nothing about the current make up of Puna that Oahu representatives can connect to. Puna's legislative future greatly depends upon our elected officials ability to make friends and connect with the majority group with most political power and influence. This has been quite elusive in recent times.

So this is what he wants us to believe? Look at what he says about Bellyacres.

We purchased our 12 acre kipuka island of trees in 1987...Bellyacres has eight houses and twelve cabins for staff, faculty and interns. Bellyacres has eight houses and twelve cabins for staff, faculty and interns.
ACCOMMODATIONS Sleeping accommodations are custom built private cabins (we call them (jungalows) situated along short trails in our wooded area. They are rustic 12 x 16 screened in, made of plywood and local tropical woods. Oil lamps are used for lighting. They are clean with raised beds, linen, mattresses, a table and chair

Still think he does not know who built them?[Big Grin]

Remember when Ronald Reagan said he "did not recall"?
Well at least he did have Alzheimer's to blame.
But this is complete and total BS.

I am certainly sorry to see all this unravel. Also sorry to see the glee with which some people celebrate other's failures and troubles. I will always be grateful to Graham for the tireless efforts he put into creative opportunities for our children. Both my girls benefited a lot.

There was never any evidence of anyone getting rich at the Hiccup Circus or Belly Acres. They were most always scraping by. They built up quite a infrastructure for Seaview where none existed and they had to be creative to do it.... perhaps too creative. Being neglected by the county for fifty years was a two edge sword. The County of Hawaii picks and chooses. One day you may be in, the next day you may be out.

On a parallel I wonder what will happen to that commercial building built illegally in a Hilo residential area by someone connected to the CoH. Most likely it will go nowhere. When someone illegally bulldozed a road through virgin lava to the Champagne Pond increasing its load of people to the point of compromise the DLNR did what it usually does - absolutely nothing.

While R.J. and Sativa may revel in their success at likely ending what was largely a good thing... I do not. It will also be difficult for me to forget the stupidity of their crusade against public health. R.J. and Sativa may have been right about some things but that doesn't happen that often.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Rob, Dig, dig, dig....whine, whine, whine, cry, cry, cry.

Boy Rob it took you a long time to respond and when you do it is so venomous.

We are not gleeful too many dead trees for us to be happy yet we are satisfied and will continue to swear hostility to those who try to twist the law to unfairness. That is what Russell Ruderman's SB 2274 was all about!

Rob, you continue to be you, friends of Puna's Future, and we will be too but first you have to understand with redistricting Puna is NO longer Puna!

For the record this is the unedited statement that we made to Tom Callis. He edited it for the story.

"This was a community effort supported by many. We are very pleased at the outcome of this investigation . We think it is fair and appropriate that the commission has mandated the Hawaii Volcano Circus and the Village Green Society, under the auspices of Graham Ellis, to remove their eight alleged rentals and pay the fine for their encroachment and activity on the People's Land.

DLNR exemplified what an agency can do when the investigation is done right and taken seriously. We could have done this anonymously but we want people to know where we stand when it comes to the future generation and the assets and resources that we are suppose to be leaving them."
