Here's a link where you can watch the entire Hemispheric Eastern Pacific
in motion (Water Vapor) - a place where you can see what is being described in the Tropical Storm discussion and connect the dots : http://www.atmos.washington.edu/~ovens/w...i?wv+/24h/ harryd link: http://harrysserver.com/ana TROPICAL STORM ANA DISCUSSION NUMBER 9 NWS CENTRAL PACIFIC HURRICANE CENTER HONOLULU HI CP022014 1100 AM HST WED OCT 15 2014

Yes, I did take it down. I was focused on the Big Island, so when it passed by, I didn't want to be responsible for making sure it was working. Sorry.

Hi Harry , I was wondering if you could explain this occurence. So what I see when watching the UW atmospheric loops page, and what I wanted to ask you was, "what is resposible for the observable reoccurence of the explosion(apparent re-generation of the center of Ana"), in the above link? Ana appears to loose all her steam so to speak and then their is a veritable eplosion of cloud form in the center of the storm, (also lacking any visible eye center. As I see it, ocean surface tempature would not in all likely hood change tempature by a factor that would cause this to occur.

Aloha Opihikaobob. Yes, I can see it clearly too. It is actually a common trait of low end warm core systems. When they get stronger and convection wraps around the core, the convection often becomes more consistent, although there is often some pulsing. Looks pretty crazy, doesn't it? Just goes to show how a complex system, like a tropical storm, can have emergent properties, like the pulsing. I find it amazing how parcels of air, 30 miles apart, all increase and decrease in activity at the same time. Amazing
![]() Any you're absolutely right about ocean surface temperatures not being the factor... this time. We don't really have steep ocean temperature gradients here. Not like when there is a loop eddy current in the Gulf of Mexico. |
