The phrase "too smart by half" comes to mind.

Tiffany out witted herself.
Assume the best and ask questions.

only 280 votes would have made the difference ...

and she lost the police department. They supported Paleka.

well the election is over, but the case is not. At least whatever happens will not shake up the County Council. That's a good thing.

Had a night to sleep on it. Maybe "Out" and "Half" were inappropriate in her case.

How about "Nit."

I prefer "didn't think that one through" -- one can only speculate on the exact reason.

Another reason why investigations take time:
When a third party receives a subpoena for records, it has up to 60 days to respond.

The police investigator is still working on the case. More info. was submitted recently. The cause of the big delay appears to be the failure of Tiffany to respond to a request for an interview and assume this is at the advice of her attorney. Can the police issue a summons to Tiffany mandating that she appears? AS we know, Mitch Roth, our Prosecuting Attorney, is a very good friend of Tiffany so could there also be some County internal manipulations taking place? Ultimately the case will go forward.

I wouldn't bet on it. Unless someone high profile is pushing it or there is substantial public interest, the prosecutor can just sit on it until the public memory fades and then just decline to prosecute. With the election over he may be counting on the public interest to fade rapidly. If the prosecutor is friends with the suspect he should recuse himself and turn it over to another office. Remember, as prosecutor he has prosecutorial discretion as to what crimes he wants to prosecute.

If it hasn't made it to the prosecutor's office, sans public iterest, the detective can sit on the case until public interest fades and later label it "exceptionally cleared" or whatever term the local PD uses to get files off their desk.
