Police behavior

If it's waking you up, just think how wonderful your neighbors must be feeling?

Go, buy 10 dogs and a big box of ear plugs! Smile

…and hire a lawyer…, that's not what my post is about. It's about asking why the police would turn and then sit idling close to the house in a private driveway around midnight instead of driving back onto the road to do their idling there because it's not all that respectful methinks. I thought that maybe others have had similar experiences that made them wonder too what kind of courtesy rules the police goes by.
For example there are countries where police officers are required to take their sunglasses of when talking to a citizen which does not seem to apply here.

asking why the police would turn and then sit

Next time they do it, walk out there and ask, see how far it gets you.

Last night shortly before midnight causing our dogs to bark continuously the police vehicle sat idling in our driveway for a while for no apparent reason before leaving our road then altogether.

Maybe get rid of the barking dogs? Your neighbors might appreciate that?

Dogs that don't bark when a strange car is parked in your driveway with people in it in the middle of the night are useless as a robbery deterrent, which is a big part of why a lot of people in Puna have dogs. Because usually when someone pulls into your driveway in the middle of the night and parks there in rural Puna, they aren't the cops.

I would like the police in my driveway than the other night when some car pull up to gate and turn off there lights. Dogs went off and ran to the gate and they still sat there. I got out of bed and started to walk up to gate then they seen me they back out without turning on lights and left.

Any concerns should be directed to the link below:

http://www.hawaiipolice.com/

Under "Contact Us" (at the link above) are a few choices. If you are concerned about the police activity in your area, please ask them directly.

Additionally, each district has "Community Police Officers" dedicated to our concerns. Call the local substation in Puna or Keaau, and talk to the "Rank", if need be.

Recently, there have been more calls to abandoned/vacant homes, and drug activity in the entire Puna area. Since the lava flow, those who have vacated the area (including yours) are experiencing problems.

If the police want to sit in your driveway, I'd give them a hot cup of coffee, soda, water, and thank them for their service. Got a question, call or ask, directly. Simple.

Not to mention, thank God dogs bark.

Rest assured, they are there to serve the public. Without "tools", like people reporting suspicious behavior/vehicles/etc., it will inhibit public safety.

And people are so used to barking dogs that they don't bother to see why they are barking!

If you look at the posts above JRW did go check out what his dogs were barking at and so did the OP.

If my dogs go ballistic in the middle of the night I certainly don't ignore it. But our dogs are not alarmists staked out on 5 foot chains 24/7, if the canine alarm system goes off at my house there is a reason, not just some random night barking at a cat or a pig walking down our road. A car parked in my driveway with people in it is something they would object to and I would check out.
