I think the webmasters (with some justification) no longer bother to write code that's practical for dial-up.


using a graphics heavy site like amazon on dial up?? you must have the patience of a saint!!

I order from Amazon a couple of times a month. I noticed a shipping slowdown about 6-months ago. It does appear to be getting worse. I just deal with it.

I refuse to sign up for Amazon Prime in that the only benefit to me would be the faster shipping. I'm not interested in the online streaming as I'm convinced Netflix is better. I could be wrong about that, but I use the ChromeCast device in combination with an updated Android phone -- a winning combination for the armchair warrior.

I seem to order from Amazon about once a week...some orders there seems to be a slow down, but others are quickly received. I've noticed that if the ordered item is from a third party and the shipment is parcel post, it definitely takes longer to get here. I also use Amazon Prime whenever possible, and haven't noticed any deliberate shipping slowdowns due to that, but will try to track that closer to see if I experience what others have on here.

Anyone else do 'subscribe and save' with Amazon on here?

I have Prime and have had the same slowdown for the past 6 months. Two recent orders that were in stock didn't ship for 5 days. Chatted with a rep and they were shipped overnight and my Prime membership was extended 1 month for free. In one case the hold up was that 1 of 5 items wasn't in stock even though it said it was when I ordered. I have also checked to ship items as they become available, but that was ignored. It's annoying to have to check on everything I order, but I guess I'll have to keep doing so.

They just did it again; for about a week, they had several items marked for shipment 4/30, but on 5/1 the ship date changed to 5/4.

Normally, I can wait, but I have a deadline for some of this stuff, and even though I ordered it 3 weeks in advance (during checkout they say free shipping takes 5-9 days--in business days, that's up to 2 weeks), it's not going to arrive in time, so I had to cancel.

I'm sure my cancellation will teach them a valuable lesson, and they will improve their ship time because of it.

I cant get it figured as to why but the same is happening to my orders recently. They say scheduled to ship on the first but on the 2nd still no movement. Solution has been to call customer service (which takes 2 rings to get a live person no hold time) and have them look at it and 9/10 they have been able to fix it. I also mention the inconvience of having to perform such rigamaroll and they usually 9/10 switch the shipping to 1 or 2 day!

Parcel Post sucks but lately its been all UPS and that works great for me.

Also Subscribe and Save is a chance to save 15% on all your staples from dish soap to rice and from ketchup to toothpaste. Well worth it for me and cuts down on those dreaded trips to Hilo town.

on my last order, they combined them into one shipping box, even though I ordered them on different dates.

I received this in an email from Amazon this morning:

Register yourself or your company for a free Amazon Business account to access FREE Two-Day Shipping on orders over $49

When you register they will ask for a business name, tax ID #, and physical address.

I work for the post office and get many complaints about slow shipment of packages from Amazon. If you use Amazon to track your package, and if the carrier is Parcel Post - that means your package is being shipped by barge, not air. Parcel Post is a shipping contractor who offers less expensive shipping rates to Amazon - especially for remote locales such as Hawaii and Alaska. The service delivers shipped packages to the nearest postal distribution center, and from there the postal service takes over actual delivery. Parcel Post can and will hold packages until it has enough to make the barge trip financially worthwhile. It uses the slowest and cheapest method of package shipment. It also uses USPS issued tracking numbers. It may look like USPS is handling your package, but not if Parcel Post is the carrier. Using the same tracking number, it may also look like your package has gone nowhere. In reality it may have made its way on the barge, been delivered to Honolulu USPS, distributed to your local post office and out for delivery to you or awaiting pick up by you. When the postal service gets involved, the tracking info is more accurate and timely. Unfortunately, that only happens towards the journey's end. Also, if you are tracking a parcel and it appears to be eternally parked at the Richmond California postal facility, Parcel Post is usually the culprit.
