Ted,
It takes an incredible commitment to take a legal stand. If you are scammed, the Courts give someone the reasonable doubt so you must have an ironclad case.
Further you are exposed to countersuits.
Then after years in the Court the scammer has a right to appeal any judgment and they are free to file future suits claiming fraud in the first.
Failing to make a stand, or provide moral support to someone that does, is evident here.
Now reread your post and go talk to residents in California after JT left.
Signed

Never said you were the only one, that this whole thing is showing a lot of Connections between people and various goings on. I kept wondering what kind of kool-aid was being served at these gathering party/meetings and now I know it wasn't kool-aid, it was a 528 Hz frequency. You ask a good general question. How are all these lawsuits being paid? It was noticeable around here a few years ago, there is a whole cluster around Pahoa ready to file a lawsuit with a slight change in the breeze. The area around Pahoa is like one giant scam factory, either involved in creating the scam or teaching their children how to become scammers. I don't get involved because I can recognize a scam from a mile away. Some of them are extremely sophisticated, but usually around some numbers racket or pyramid scheme variation. Con man means Con-fidence man, not convict man. These scams always have somebody that is a good spokesperson, sounding very sincere and always emphasizing the "charitable" nature of their "cause". It's just a screwy way to view this activity as a way to live in Hawaii. Most people just want to enjoy the island. Some people, no-o-o-o.
"Aloha also means goodbye. Aloha!"

Blog describing Jon Toriumi before coming to Hawaii

I contacted all the people, pastors, and churches that JT had worked with and found out that everyone was owed money. Some a little, some a lot. Many people had equipment and supplies that were borrowed to him for ministry use that were never returned.
During this time, JT would go off the radar for weeks at a time. He would simply disappear and would not answer his phone or would not be home when we would try and findhim. While trying to track down where $5500 would come from, he disappeared for a period of 4 weeks with our trailer, dirtbike and merchandise (about 10K total in assets).

There was a case filed. But I gather not the right lever was pulled.
JT's case. (Case #CO7009058, Crime Unit:

What a bizarre thread. Hope it vanishes soon, although I think there might be a little entertainment left. Hope it goes to email though. (Not mine, please).

Mike Purvis relates 40 people scammed by JT. I want to ask them questions.
If you were one of the 3 that came to my doorstep, I think you should know someone that did similar went to jail and I organized all the witnesses and made sure they were in Court. I also traced his assets and found his home in a false name and his condo on Oahu. That and a few calls....
I can talk freely of him as he was convicted and she died.
It be better you step out now because I already orchestrated a FBI investigation. I do not take kindly to threats.

Why would you ever think Punaweb is the right venue to track down 3 people who showed up on your doorstep years ago? Or the right place to communicate to them that you "don't take kindly to threats."
Realistically, Punaweb is read by only a tiny percentage of the people who live here, and a large percentage of those moved here in the last 10 years, which is why so many people didn't even know where this place was when you first brought it up. From the deck of your far off sailboat Punaweb may seem like a way to get all of Puna's ear, but from here in Puna it seems like a fools errand.
It also seems like you have a compulsion to air dirty laundry publicly.

I have to agree. pbmaise should take his research elsewhere.
Locking it up. Soon to disappear. Don't bring it back.
Assume the best and ask questions.
