ObamaCare is NOT insurance. ObamaCare is a government run marketplace (exchange) of ObamaCare approved insurance plans administered by insurance companies (Cigna, Aetna, BlueCross, BlueShield, etc), not the government. The law, or act, requires every American purchase ObamaCare 'approved' insurance plans.

Sounds like much more "insurance" than actual "healthcare".
requires every American purchase ObamaCare 'approved' insurance plans
Again: requires "purchase of insurance", which is not equivalent to "provide healthcare".
Fun fact: there are many exemptions to the "requirement", and the "penalties" are not enforceable.

An incredible amount of people move here for our generous health care system, mostly because it's free to them. Lots of families of disabled as in Down syndrome also move here as well for the benefits. I know 2 women with a Down syndrome adult children, moved here and applied for benes, got turned down then sued the state and get 100K a year each forever, thanks to the Hawaii state taxpayers. Neither believed in getting tested while pregnant. Why bother when you can abuse the system and get hard working people to hand money over to you for free.
I also notice an inordinate amount of locals and transplants around here and elsewhere, who do not take care of themselves resulting in a huge burden to the medical services. Flagrant abuse to their bodies. No exercise, poor eating habit etc.. These types are siphons on any economy and medical community. A neurologist told me he mostly sees patients who have damaged themselves from a lifetime of drugs and/or other physical abuses.
Thanks to those who care not for themselves and burden the system and the individuals and families who do care enough and need occasional help. The responsible people will now have more trouble getting help when they need it.
Diabetes runs rampant on this island also. It's common knowledge learned in elementary school to not abuse sugar or you will become diabetic. Hard to fathom such a high percentage of Americans have so little self control and choose to live a life dominated by prescription drugs. Whatever.

Obama also had to fight tooth and nail just to get this subsidized health insurance plan in place. He had to battle the Republicans, so much that we are under the sequester budget that was the compromise to shutting down the government over the subsidized health insurance plan. This sequester budget is in place for 10 years now, $1 trillion in cuts required across the board except defense. Are people really going to forget the Iraq War was totally a Republican conspiracy, and as with all wars, fought with $6 trillion in credit, the payments coming due on top of all the cuts? The people have spoken and the people have received what they wanted, by mob rule.

Punatic007, you are always a troll who is good for a laugh. But I am a sucker too, so I'll go for your bait. 1. You know an "incredible" amount of people who move here for our health benefits? Hawaii, and the east side of our island in particular, are not known for high quality health care. The opposite is the truth. 2."Lots of families move here..." You claim to know all of two. And a doubtful story of wealth forever." In fact it is a lie or a fabrication. 3. You notice an "inordinate amount of locals and transplants...who abuse their bodies," etc. You are extraordinarily perceptive. I cannot tell if somebody is local or a transplant by their looks. And again, you are either mistaken or lying. Hawaii is #1 amongst states in longevity and second to the last in obesity. Our tobacco use is in the lower 25% of the nation. We are in the top 5 for exercise (darn Colorado is #1 for exercise and last for obesity). Perhaps a return visit to your neurologist is in order. The topic is layoffs at our hospitals, not our lack of self-control or prescription drugs. I thank and appreciate those physicians who choose to serve our communities. The lay-offs are very bad news.

So sad indeed. I'm currently on the mainland to get some health care services. I don't want to leave my home in Hawaii, but not sure if I can get the care I need there. On the flip side, this trip here has been an education that I cannot be on my own either. Home health services, which I worked in years ago, is a life line for many. If they close the psych unit, what happens to those patients' needs? Is there a state hospital? Crises units that have trained staff to deal with a suicidsl, psychotic, or manic patient? Wow...I'm bummed to hear this news.
Best wishes

And don't feel too bad for the doctors, they are all making 6 figures if they work full time.
That's true. In addition to their high salary, they also attended 4 years of med school (when they didn't get paid but all of their college graduate friends with jobs did) then a period of residency when they barely made minimum wage based on an hourly basis (sometimes 72 hour shifts straight through so they can observe the progression of a disease, or it's treatment).
After that, they get to pay off those medical school bills (I don't know what it runs now, but a friend of mine in the '80s owed $300,000) and about 25% of their salary for malpractice insurance.

Aloha, mmbvd7, continued prayers and positive thoughts for healing. You will return to your home here, even if for a moment (ie. 3 weeks, or months, years...positive thoughts create positive results)[ ]. Also thinking of Pam ("beepbeep", aloha Pam!) as I write.
Edgar Cayce had a wonderful "outlook" on life as a whole (My Papa quoted him when I was a child; a "prophet" of sorts. Sorry O/T). In your copius free time, reading his literature may provide solace, and peace until your return. Just a thought. Best wishes, and fond aloha.
As to our dilemma with local health care facilties, our State of Hawai'i must make some drastic changes. Sooner than later, please.
Be well. Look forward to your return home.

[ ] Aloha, ahiahi, PaulW. He was quite an interesting man, and some of his opinions (as it were) carried some validity. For example:
"There is progress whether ye are going forward or backward! The thing is to move!"
OR:
"When ye are prepared for a thing, the opportunity to use it presents itself."
OR:
"Actually, we have no problems-we have opportunities for which we should give thanks... An error we refuse to correct has many lives. It takes courage to face one's own shortcomings and wisdom to do something about them."

Yes, Sir, I believe in miracles. Apologies for the off topic, however, somehow, (to bring it back to topic) we must make sure our ohana is well cared for. While we wait for the State to do what is right, in our home, it is "kahuna lapa'au".
Enjoy your evening, Sir. (Gotta go cook for mo'opuna. A hui hou.)
