Yeah, vbulletin is the forum software that has pretty much taken over. It has a lot of bells and whistles but is quite a bit of work to maintain, usually requiring admins, and is fairly prone to hack attacks. Facebook is making forums look like dial-up modems. Wordpress blog sites are falling by the wayside. For technical specialty sites, forums provide the feedback to provide productive communication so they will stay around as resources, not community sites and chatter. Even with all the misinformation on PW, it still is a kind of news bulletin for a remote rural area.

This forum runs on a fairly old open source program. Similar to when DOS was replaced by Windows and things just stopped being compatible. Kind of amazing it has run this long. This is an example of a Hawaii vbulletin forum that is somewhat active. Not really recommending vbulletin, it means a big increase in maintenance. Might be better to run the existing program on a newer server, if it is compatible.

Rob,
In case you aren't aware, email via PW is broken and you get that "We've happened..." error message. It probably is time to change, despite loving this simple and easy to use software. I fully understand why it might have to go though, but it'll be hard to watch it walk off into the sunset. Please let me know if I can be of any help.

Rob, thanks again for all you do, I can't imagine how much time this takes to read and moderate.
If you do decide to create a new, modernized Punaweb 2.0 and archive this current site, I would like to offer you the domain PUNATICS.COM to use for your new forum. I can't think of a better use for that domain and you could make Punatics T-Shirts to raise money for expenses and for any charities you wish.

If given a raw dump of the database (or means to collect it) I would index everything into some kind of searchable "knowledgebase" application -- I'm most interested in preserving the farm/garden and building topics, there's just too much good stuff in there.
