i went to the pahoa meeting monday with our congress reps. Ruderman was not happy with the plan to put light here. he found out about it by reading the paper! he said this was his district and no one had the courtesy to inform him... that the powers that be just try to push things through. these aren't his exact words but he was pretty hot about it.
It was a good meeting with Russel and Joy, not a big group and the only time it got lively was over weed, but i guess that is typical for puna (heavy sigh)

An alternative would be to close off the connector between North and South bound traffic at Shipman.
All traffic coming out of Shipman would turn right (south). Those wishing to travel North would turn left at a new connector a safe distance (to give them time to merge into the new left turn lane) south of Shipman, and then left again into a Northbound merge lane. Same thing for folks coming from Puna to Shipman; pass it, turn left at the next connector, left again, then right into the business park. Sort of a poorman's roundabout that most traffic won't have to deal with. ><(((*< ... ><(("< ... ><('< ... >o>

This arrangement (pass your road, then turn left and left again at a special connector) is also known as a Michigan-left and is used extensively there to avoid cross-traffic and even the need for signals. Takes some getting used but does tend to keep traffic moving.

I was going to say, why have any cross traffic at all? Just make everyone trying to cross TURN into traffic with HUGE LONG Merge lanes (on ramps) where people can get up to speed and merge with ease.
Then the folks that want to get to shipman will have to find another connection there are few maybe add a few more, again long turn off's so traffic doesn't get stacked back up on the highway. Tho, I do like the 4 way light option at the 130/11 cross point. Plus more building for business like a lowes and a sams club...  Damn, dreaming again I know. Maybe a huge building area with a TECH center? I mean as long as we are dreaming. Now that TMT is a pipedream why not let the hawaiians block shipman entrance until costco or sams is built?

This is the reason you need to vote for Greggor in the upcoming election ! Ruderman is disliked and he has lost the support of his fellow senators ! We need to start thinking about making that section of highway 11 and all of 130 into limited access highways. Ruderman is not going to support that and I believe Greggor will.

Yes, an obvious solution. Now, where will all the extra space come from? Per the TMK maps, everything is subdivided right up to the highway easement... Saying it again: maybe the solution isn't more roads for more cars so more people can drive themselves to town for every little thing? |
