Only in Hawaii is a statue worth more than human life..I'm referring to the case a while back involving a driver who killed a pedestrian.. left the scene.. and got 30 days.
This kid got five years for removing part of the spear from The Kamehameha statue.

Kalakoa: Somehow I think that Weasel Kenoi isn't going to see any jail time for this. Not sure or anything, but just a gut feeling.

I'd almost ( except it's illegal) wager that he won't.. he has too many friends. Oh well that's the way the general public likes it. Or they would raise a bigger stink.

I dunno. This is sort of like removing a part of the Statute of Liberty, say, the lamp, no? Although the Hilo statue is not as historical as others, it is culturally significant, adds to the charm of our town and belongs to all of us. If I recall, a bell was recently stolen from a temple. It had been there for years (I think it was recovered). Maybe this sort of vandalism should be taken seriously.

If they took cultural significance serious... they wouldn't be letting people poke sticks or throwing garbage ..or urinating on the lava flows.
After all it is the essence of the Goddess Pele.
Desecration should be a punishable offence.
