Yes, please see a Dr. Birdmove. Your injury sounds serious.
Xray would be good but you need to see a Dr. Before one can be "ordered".
Even then, an X-ray only shows so much. MRI is the best diagnostic tool, but normally follows Xray if symptoms persist. MRI's are rarely ordered until after an Xray.

About the bruising, I've had bruising with every broken bone, legs, ankles, knee. Bruising does not eliminate the possibility of fractures/tears.

If you want to use compression, (a bit late) all the feed stores have the self adhering rolls of stretchy tape. It's a lot cheaper than the people kind, comes in packs of multiple rolls and flamboyant colors. Good stuff to have around. If compression is applied right after injury it does help reduce swelling. Now, it would just give you some support and stableization and remind you not to move too fast or far.

Wishing you a return to mobility and normal life!

We have Kaiser, and I did make an appointment. I think, if they decide they have to do an MRI, they may have to fly me to Oahu. But, at least my doctor will be able to assess the knee. Couldn't get in till Friday though.

If you use the online appointment feature on the website first thing in the morning (before they open) you can often get into your Dr. that day.

My Knees are a mess. Childhood dance, Motorcycle, mountain bike and surfing accidents. One thing I can't live without is Turmeric .
I found the best is liquid from the Keaau Healthfood Store. I use their own label in some milk everyday. I've read to add a pinch of black pepper with milk to help it absorb. It needs the fat of to work, I guess coconut milk would work too for vegans. Oh, I have a Morton Neuroma on the one foot and it keeps the swelling down like magic. If I miss more than one day, I'm reminded by the pain. Give it a try. Sure hope it helps.

The first time I injured this knee (right side) was when a motorcycle was out of time, I kicked it over, and it fired early and instantly stoped and went back in the other direction. That healed on it's own, but took quite a while.

So, tumeric is helpful for swelling? I wasn't going to mention it, but my left ankle has been swollen up for years. It's the reason I can't run on a treadmill, as I would pound it so bad. I have been able to do 30 minutes at a very fast walk (like up to 4.2-4.4 mph for part of it) on a treadmill, but even then sometimes the ankle would hurt that night. When we were still in the Seattle/Tacoma area, I had a Doctor look at it. He sent me to a physical therapy place. They gave me some interesting exercises, and hooked that ankle up to some electrical voltage. Had to drop it as 1. it didn't seem to be helping, and 2. found out my insurance company wouldn't cover it. Maybe the tumeric might shrink that ankle. It's swollen right at that gig bone that sticks out on the side.
Is that place that sells tumeric next to the laundrymat in Keaau?

Yes, that is were I get mine. By the way if they are out, wait. The other brand is like dishwater. The turmeric has other benefits too. Don't take if you are already on blood thinners. I had read that Alzheimer rates are lower in India thought to be due to the use of turmeric in most of the dishes. I was prescribed anti inflammatory drugs for my foot years ago and with in two days I knew I couldn't take them. That is when I found out, with the help of Keaau HF Store about turmeric. Never looked back since. There is a great deal if you buy 3 bottles at a time. FYI, it is grown locally too.

Turmeric is in the Ginger family. Grows like a weed here and it's a beautiful plant. Besides it's anti inflammatory properties, it's a blood purifier. Good for all around health! My Dentist hates the way it colors my teeth tho, so I now take caps bought at Amazon. They have the ones with black pepper too for better absorption. It is a blood thinner so caution is advised. Best to check with your Doc about possible drug interactions, especially pharmaceutical anti inflammatories ( like Advil, Motrin and other NSAIDS ) and blood thinners.

Not too sure this would be as beneficial for you as was me but, it's surprising.
My knees would swell, and as swelling is painful, it's the nut of the matter, pressure on the nerves. Yet mine is Rheumatoid arthritis.

Regardless I had to have my knees drained at least every 6 months, then shot up with cortisone.. I loved that stuff, [grin] too bad has to limit the times you can load up the cortisone so, Up for 6 months, maybe a year, drain, shot, down, then back on the swelling trail..

I took tons of 'Motrin' ( Ibuprofen ) to help swelling. In fact too much however still under the max, per day. my prostrate was swelling. That's not too uncomfortable, EXCEPT racing to the head at 3 AM..

Until I discovered naproxen 'Aleve's' ingredient at wally world's, Generic 200 mg pills. 1 sometimes 2 pills is better than Ibuprofen by miles! And in just a month +/- prostrate went back to normal,, YEAH!

Aside: ( already had bad gastrointestinal trouble decades before I needed Ibuprofen. I retrained my stomach, changed the times I ate, aligned with the times my mother feed me for about a year, and it seems to allowed enough time to heal and then reprogrammed it, changed the time my system would dump acid and eat me alive. Yet, I also had and still do, a permanent hiatal hernia, so, while I reprogramed acid delivery, it enabled me to take stuff that otherwise would eat me alive too.)

Regardless, long before Naproxen, while getting knees drained, I acquired an apartment building, 5 stories high. Elevator was made in 1906, but, due to age, and dumb modifications, we're talking about a lift that was NOT safe for public usage. It actually worked fine, but not automatic so, and the doors could be opened on any floor at any time. only manual operation or hire a elevator boy 24 hours a day to suite 33 apartments up to 60 feet high.

Soon as acquired, I locked those doors, the liability would be astronomical. Although, I had an employee transfer dweller's property when required, Nobody could get free 'pleasure' rides.

I had to debate as to how it could be my personal machine, without conflicts especially with kids, in this building.

As time narrowed down to make this deal, that was a serious consideration.. "How in the heck will I manage?"

Whelp this long story needs to cut to the chase.

I walked those stairs at least once every single day averaging 6-1/2 days a week. Even after I bought, 3-4 years later, a whole new fully automatic, modern elevator.

I've never needed knee injections and draining since, then 1991.

Ankles, no changes and swelled, but not enough for drainage, shoulders required infrequent boosters, but knees? even 11 years after selling it,, is GooT!

Prob helped my heart and blood pressure too because after getting use-to the exercise. .. even years later, if I hurried up,, I'll know just how good my heart is at the top. [grin]

Why only my knees? Heck if I knows, but I'll take it. [wink]

My Doctor from Kaiser is giving me a call next Wednesday in the late afternoon. Maybe he had to have a specialist look at the x-rays? So, I'm kind of up in the air till then. I'll try to update this thread then as far as what he tells me. The bruises are disappearing, and the swelling has gone down some too.
Thanks for asking too!!
