Just last week we had 3 over flights before 7 am. The helicopter companies claim they do not fly before 8 am.

How are you so sure the overflights were tour helicopters? Or that they contained tourists, rather than being contracted out for another purpose?

The state's noise regulations don't apply to aircraft !

Almost as if there's a, what do you call it, "pre-emption by Federal law" or something.

You would probably say that Hawaii advertising restrictions don't apply to aircraft, yet towed banners were successfully banned under the law. That's why you don't see the towed banners over beaches here like you do in other places.

That's what you call a "precedent" in law...

"The helicopter companies claim they do not fly before 8 am."

Several months ago I was dropping off at the airport... about 0620 am they were loading 4-5 helicopters up. There was some good twilight but the sun wasn't up yet. I decided that I was going to take a picture of it with my cell phone with the date/time stamp but by the time I dropped them off at the curb and drove back to where I could see the helicopters the last one was just taking off. I don't know if that is "normal", but to say they never fly before 0800 is incompatible with what I witnessed that morning.

It is a huge effort to take on the big $$$ boys, and it is much appreciated. We look forward to success and a solution good for all concerned.

Chasing off the Ferry, the TMT and now going after the Heli-tours? I was born and raised in a state that lost its ONE economic lynchpin....Michigan, the former Auto capitol of the Nation. Like it our not, Hawaii's one economic lynchpin is Tourism. You do not want to know what life is like in a place with no real economy. We get helis in Hamakua, quite a few, flying to look at Waipio and several large waterfalls nearby. I knew this when I bought and their noise is of not concern to me or my animals.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you; and please do research before spouting bogus claims. The Helicopters are turbine helis, and thus use Jet A. Not leaded fuel.

Wow, that's quite a leap, equating an effort to quiet down tourist helicopters with TMT and the Super Ferry, AND implying tourists wouldn't come if there were no copters. What nonsense.

--this effort is to get the copters to fly over unpopulated land or the ocean instead of our homes, not to leave entirely.

--tour helicopters are only a small part of the tourist industry here. This isn't Michigan, and tourists don't come just for the copters. And the copter companies aren't feeding ME, just a few people that work for them. Yes, they pay taxes, but so do all of us who live in the flight path.

--it's very nice for you that the copters don't bother you. It is not nice for me that they bother me. Please don't try to say we should all share YOUR feelings.

Yes, they pay taxes

Not clear: how much of that tax money actually finds its way into our County's General Fund.

Isn't that exactly what this organization is trying to do?

not at all. This is about effecting change in a matter we care about.
Any of you are welcome to write to the Health Department about how you don't care about helicopter noise.

But if you don't care about the noise, why oppose those who do?

What if the helicopter is sacred to me and my religion? [:p] Looking for a "protector" tie-in here...
