An easier to read link to the study about helicopter noise here in Hawaii;
http://web.eng.hawaii.edu/~panos/heli.htm
If they use aviation fuel (avgas) there’s lead in it;
https://www.faa.gov/about/initiatives/avgas/
Here’s an excerpt from a letter sent to Senators, Schatz, Hirono and House Rep. Gabbard, from our local representatives- signed by Kahele, Rudderman, Inouye, Nakashima, Tsuji, Buenaventura, Onishi.
Sorry I don’t know how to copy the entire letter which is in pdf form- I’ll transcribe the first paragraph-written Sept. 28th, 2016;
“Helicopter noise as a result of commercial air tour flights over residential areas in the East region of Hawaii island has reached unprecedented levels in recent years. Residents in Hamakua, Hilo, Mountain View, Puna, Volcano and Kau have continued to raise issues of overflights, noise complaints and safety issues with the State of Hawaii Dept. of Transportation, the Honolulu Flight Standards District office of the FAA and the air tour industry and operators. Without a doubt the #1 destination on the Hawaii island is the Volcanoes National Park.”
I am truly amazed that this has gone on for so long here. Here’s more history to a longstanding problem;

Endangered Species and Harry Kim;

Mahalo to the Punawebbers who have sent in an e-mail. Hicop.org is determined to get back our serenity and we actually think we have a right to a quiet and peaceful home and we will try to accomplish this.
I came across this quote From Environment Hawaii posted in May 1993- 24 years ago;
To many of those who must put up with the noise, the operators profits have come at their expense. Coco Pierson may have expressed the thought most succinctly. He told Patsy Mink: “My tranquility was stolen, and somehow it reappeared as money in the pocket of the tour operators.”
Edited for brevity
