TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo
"2 prominent Native Hawaiians say they're part of 'silent majority' in favor of TMT"

This is an interesting video and article on the Hawaii News Now website regarding some Native Hawaiians who support the TMT, at least one of which has said he's been accused of treason. Not a nice thing to hear if you simply support the endeavors to learn more about astronomy, the universe and provide resources for education.

One of those silent prominent Native Hawaiians in favor of the TMT may also believe sexual Harassment is also good for the community.

Why is there a silent Majority that is in favor of the TMT development on the summit of Mauna Kea?

I am also in favor of the building of the TMT.
What I am not in favor of is the TMT being developed on the Hawaiian summit of Mauna Kea. From what I understand, we already have plenty of Telescopes that make up the astronomy capital of the world that sits on top of Mauna Kea. Many of these currently working large telescopes atop Mauna Kea could probably do MORE to provide residents resources for education. jmo's

What alternate location would be acceptable to you?

What if that location is sacred to someone else?

Is desecration acceptable when it's somewhere else far away?

Please let me answer for Mr. Gyp (and the other opponents):
#1 anywhere but here
#2 who cares, as long as it isn't here?
#3 who cares, as long as it isn't here?

There's no going back. Anyone who really believes development should cease needs to leave the island, because the real problem is that people are living here, and those people aren't going to catch fish and hunt pig, they want a supermarket.

Instead, we've reached the point where people are petitioning for -- and getting -- contested case hearings about a new cellphone tower -- on the grounds that the land is "sacred" because (from the transcript) "I walk by there every day".

It's foolish to hope that development can be stopped by making the process so expensive and time-consuming that projects will be shut down.

Good analysis by Ian Lind.

A Judge’s Findings Leave TMT Opponents Few Options

http://www.civilbeat.org/2017/08/ian-lin...w-options/

"The findings come down heavily in favor of approval of the TMT, and appear to make it much more difficult for opponents to succeed in blocking the project."

Ian pinpoints the effective strategy used during the second contested case hearing by U of H and TIO.

"However, it appears that the University of Hawaii and TMT International Observatory, the nonprofit organization created to design, build and operate the Thirty Meter Telescope, made good use of the replay to focus and strengthen their presentation the second time around."

Pisciotta and company were doomed from the start once their attorney bailed out on them right before the beginning of the hearing. If that tactic was meant to slow the hearing down to a snail's pace, forcing the decision past TIO's start of construction deadline, it failed.

They were left to flounder on their own as they tried to figure out how to present their case.

Larry Sinkin has moved to North Dakota to tilt at more windmills.
It turns out that Sinkin is not licensed to practice law in Hawaii.

Lind concludes:
"It seems to me Amano presented a strong case in her findings and recommendations. It will make it much more difficult for TMT opponents to gain much legal traction for their arguments going forward, and that will be a bitter pill for many to swallow."

Weren't we told by "The Protectors" that every law must be followed?

Thanks for mentioning Ian Lind's article, galileo.

Another interesting video and article from Hawaii News Now:

Unfortunately, given what has happened in the recent past on Mauna Kea, I have no confidence law enforcement here will be able to carry out the recommendation.

Silent Majority???

The summit of Mauna Kea has been used by the Hawaiians for centuries for various reasons. Many of those reasons should continue to be respected today rather than ignored or replaced by the money from large Telescope developers. These Hawaiians share their thoughts regarding the many burials on Mauna Kea and how they feel about the treatment of their people thus far.

I don't think cinder cones should have been removed for the Telescopes to operate. I also don't think it's respectful or proper to kick over and remove possible burials like the Office of Mauna Kea's Management senior advisor Wallace Ishibashi was practicing prior to the TMT protests. jmo's

Someone should always be on the developers site when construction begins, someone who is trained to see and protect past Hawaiian burials or bones. This video is always worth watching again as the many snakes in the grass are called out. I recognize the gentleman who stands up to leave at the 2:12 mark of the video I just can't put a name to his face. He looks very familiar he must be of some great importance to have been invited to the planned TMT's ground breaking ceremony though.

What are those various reasons? I know you're always too cowardly to actually answer questions, but there's always hope. So please name the various reasons below. Things that Hawaiians or pretend Hawaiians did after the observatories paid for the road construction do not count.

And please be specific. This requires you to provide examples and evidence. I suspect this is beyond you but please surprise me.

1) ?

2) ?

3) ?

etc.

Thank you in advance.
