For those interested, the written replies to Judge Amano's recommendations to the BLNR can be found here:

I assume these will be the basis of the BLNR hearing in September.

The War on the Hawaiians continues
Racist and inaccurate. Non-Hawaiians also hunt for food.

That's a new one. Gypsy seems to be claiming that the TMT will be radioactive.

the TMT will be radioactive.
Yes, I knew they irradiated papayas at the packing plant in Keaau, but didn't realize a plan was afoot to zap Hawaiians with the TMT.
You learn something new, and implausible, every day.

"I would rather be able to hunt, gather, teach and provide"
Is that what you do? Will you continue to do so on the mainland?

The odd thing is, I know several people who work at the observatories who like to hunt, gather, teach and provide. And none of them have been irradiated.

I see Gypsy has now edited his post. So now, I'll say:
The odd thing is, I know several people who work at the observatories who like to hunt, gather, teach and provide. And none of them have been eradicated.
TomK
How many of those PEOPLE you know working at the observatories are HAWAIIAN?
How many of the people you know working at the worlds astronomy capitol are born and raised on the Big Island?
With equal opportunity and education provided, I believe Several hundred Hawaiians would be capable of doing the jobs at the observatories. This TMT project may provide Thousands of good paying jobs for Canadians, Asians and Europeans while only providing Construction and other labor jobs for those mainly from Oahu. jmo
A few concerns I have regarding the TMT project are:
The land lease on the summit of Mauna Kea is set to expire in the year 2033. If the TMT is built it should also be decommissioned with the other dozen or more telescopes by 2033. The TMT project and their many lawyers are making the 8 criteria currently put in place to help protect Mauna Kea a joke. The TMT project may bring millions more people to our sacred and environmentally sensitive summit of Mauna Kea. The TMT project may cause or force our Island residents to have to pay more for limited resources like Water, housing and electricity.
A few questions i have regarding the TMT project are:
If the TMT was built on Mauna Kea who really stands to benefit? Island Keiki, Helco, or the islands many resorts?
If the TMT was built on Mauna Kea would Pele's gifts to the Hawaiian people be used to provide the TMT electricity?
How would the China or India Government's or military's plan to use their TMT investment and allotted time?

Humanity would benefit the most from the increased knowledge. Of those you list, I think the resorts would benefit the least, because most tourists would not drive thst dangerous road past the visitor center.
I'm sure some of TMT's electricity would come from every source on the island. I don't think they would be Pele's gift, though, because no one can prove Pele exists. Even if she does, how could a human claim to know the will of a god?
I would assume the governments/militaries of China and India would like to look at space stuff, and perhaps human stuff in space.
