Best way to donate for the Harvey storm?
#31
I hope you managed to find enough information here to make a decision about where to donate, 8F, despite the thread morphing into something quite bizarre.

Watching the TV coverage and seeing people being rescued wearing pajamas and in their bare feet, I wondered how glindakine could tell they were republicans ?

I saw suffering people who just lost everything.

I donated through the Red Cross.

My friend, Scott, definitely not a "section 8 druggie", inspecting his house and neighborhood after his son and parents had to be rescued. He got off lightly relative to others.

Fine. Don't donate to the Red Cross if you don't want to. The OP didn't want to either but wanted to know what other options were available. Don't donate at all if you don't want to.

An organization that evaluates and ranks charities, recommends donating to the Houston Food Bank, Food Bank of Corpus Christi, Houston Humane Society, Houston SPCA, or the San Antonio Humane Society for the greatest impact.

alaskyn66 that's exactly what I posted, but instead of a second source (wired) I linked the agency that ranks them where you can check other charities which is where I got the Red Cross data.

Only reason I posted the wired article was because I thought it informative somewhat.

"Red Cross Exec Doesn't Know What Portion Of Donations Go To Harvey Relief"

I remember when I made a large (for my income and situation) donation once before, I *think* it was the 2004 tsunami, the Red Cross had a box I could check that said "I want 100% of my donation to go towards tsunami (or whatever) relief" and it convinced me to donate a little more. It's too bad they don't offer that any more.
