Irma may well make everyone forget Harvey very soon.
Best way to donate for the Harvey storm?

They've been guilty of dumb growth there for several decades.

Break into a house in Texas, your gonna get shot.
Don't break into a house in Texas and you still get shot. My father moved to the Dallas area six months ago. He's afraid to watch their local newscast at 6 PM, it's so violent. Here in Hawaii the lead story on Hawaii News Now is generally something like, "Coming up... broken water main on Kalakaua Avenue." Then a video of a 15 foot water geyser shooting sky high with kids splashing around under it. The choice is yours to make. I'm staying here. The Donner Party really wasn't that great of a party, was it?

For those that wish to contribute to victims of Hurricane Irma, the NY Times has published the following article. There's no list of charities (yet) but it offers helpful advice:
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/08/us/hu...ml?mcubz=1 Given some dubious posts here in the past about GoFundMe requests I would be careful about using them, but there are places that will use your dollars to help people in a desperate situation.

Money is the best thing to send. Just send it to the right people. Food banks, animal shelters ect.
I don't remember how many years ago it was.. 10 maybe 15, state officials finally said stop. Because people were sending clothes, canned goods ect..and the biggest part of it had to be sent elsewhere or thrown in the landfill.

And please remember it's not just Florida. Lots of small islands took the full brunt of the storm before it hit the US and they need help. Money is the best option, even if it's just a couple of dollars, as those giving aid know where it needs to go.

And please, think about this:
"Again.. I have a lot of sympathy for the little guys, but in the big picture they brought this on themselves." Don't be like this jerk, please help your fellow people if you can.

Unfortunately I found myself reading facebook the other day and the hatred aimed at the Red Cross is unbelievable.
I'm all for careful scrutiny of charities but the lies being passed on as fact are amazing. Were they always this dumb or are they just getting louder?

Never had much time for Facebook either..
Barbuda was totally destroyed.. they have nothing but rubble left. The US..Florida and Houston will recover but the small islands bordering in the Caribbean are completely destroyed. The have no food no water no infrastructure whatsoever. |
