As for your strange version of history, I think you should do your own research. I doubt Rob would approve of a mile long list of links to the writings of the founders and prior common law. It would be impossible to have a debate on the basic 2nd amendment validity and meaning while keeping the topic Hawaii or Puna unless I just randomly throw those words in somewhere like I just sort of did. If I comment further it will be as related to Hawaii or Puna.

As for your strange version of history,

I only mentioned the connection between slavery and the 2nd Amendment as someone claimed the 2nd Amendment should allow them to carry guns in Puna with little or no restriction. I pointed out the reason the 2nd Amendment was written has no current or historical application in Puna or Hawaii. It's not "my" version of history, sadly it's our history, which is not often enough brought up for discussion. It's well documented however, and can be found in the writings and letters of the Founding Fathers, and in newspaper articles and advertisements published at the time.

I think you should do your own research.

If you check, it's an exact quote - - applied to the real world at large. Not just a single disputed area of contention. Sometimes the baby (gun) is in the bathwater (big world).

The reason it was inserted into the constitution was because citizen soldiers (minutemen) helped win our independence from the British and the new government didn't have a military to speak of. Jefferson's idea was that every able bodied male would receive military training and be available to be called up on a moments notice.

And they were assault weapons. You don't put a bayonet for disemboweling humans at the end of your rifle to go bird hunting.

The same reason as any place else. Self defense. Target shooting. Bullseye matches. In my case 100 meter and 200 meter NRA Hunter Pistol, and IHMSA matches. I have fired many thousands of rounds in those competitions, AND used a pistol in self defense, and never shot or killed anyone. If no deaths are caused by home owners protecting themselves, we should be ecstatic of those results. In my case it was a home invasion late at night on my 22nd birthday. That would put it November 1st 1976 at a rental I lived in just south of Seatac Airport.
Just because some may think handgun matches are the devils work or some such blather, that doesn't give anyone else the right to tell me I can't do these things. We need a target shooting range right here in East Hawaii that is run in a well organized manner with someone that boot your butt out for unsafe acts or being a slob. Shooters need a legal place to shoot. Maybe random shooting at night in HPP (assuming they aren't all fireworks) might just cease if we had a well run LEGAL place to target shoot, sight in firearms, test hand loads, and God help us, maybe have some fun bowling pin matches (which I also enjoy) for our citizens.

I think we need much tougher gun laws. You want a gun then you should be trained in it's use, take tests regarding all gun laws, big time background check, be required to have a gun safe and a separate safe for ammunition and 20 hours mandatory psychological evaluation and counseling sessions renewed annually.

Guns themselves should only be able to be bought from law enforcement agencies. You want a gun, face a cop eye to eye.

There should be no concealed weapons allowed.

America is gun happy, and those that want guns never say anything about why it is that by world standards they are so over the top possessed by guns. This should be on the table, talked about, and legislation to correct it passed. AND, if that doesn't work we should have all guns confiscated.

And, oh yeah, the NRA should be disbanded. The Second amendment repealed.
