TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo
"Glad to respond TomK by saying reread my post again as a whole. It's about the mudslinging. I've read plenty of opinions on PT that didn't resort to mudslinging. Bullying anyone gang style while expressing one's opinion is disgusting and why it's tolerated is questionable."

Right, and the bullying Gypsy and his protester friends have done to those working on the mountain is certainly disgusting. I hope you understand that those he supports and promotes on PW have done exactly what you said shouldn't be tolerated. You may not have been on the mountain to see it, but I and a number of colleagues and friends were. And perhaps if you only read back a few pages, you'll see the type of tactic Gypsy uses.

I didn't see you complain then.

@leilanidude Normally I wouldn't care and would agree. It's been several years of debate with Gypsy now for me and he has never actually held a real opinion. As soon has he is shown he is wrong, he "forgets" it for a while then brings it up later. He only comments to stir the pot and he will do whatever it takes to troll people. If he was sincerely interested in debating he would not resort to forgetting falsehoods or making up lies. I only suggested he was ignorant because in his role of playing the innocent fool he's able to continue his dishonest conversations trolling people here. This is why he should be banned. It's even worse now that he doesn't live here and continues the same behavior.

@leo some of the anti-tmt people are violent. They have even threatened to harm teenagers. They bully people at schools and the universities. Kids that I know who are interested in astronomy tell me they have to be quiet about it and a few that have gone on to advanced degrees tell me they are glad they are not studying their subject in Hawaii. This is the kind of serious damage that needs to be healed (Something he just claims he "can't see".) And yet you see how Gypsy just keeps screaming about WAR and berating other Native Hawaiians who actually support the TMT. He also engages in the "too-haole" tactics to attack people like Paul (in another thread). For example Gypsy considers himself less haole because he can surf, paddle a canoe, etc. which makes him more of an authority on Hawaiian issues.

For what it's worth, I often see him parrot material posted on facebook as if it's his own thoughts or discovery.

This guy is toxic. A liar. And not even in Hawaii. I'm surprised he wasn't banned after his attack on Paul.

It's about the mudslinging... Bullying anyone gang style

leo,
I think the previous comments by TomK, Chunkster, knieft cover the situation pretty well. I would only add that the threats and support for violence come almost entirely from gypsy. I would also question your use of the term 'bullying' and 'gang up.' There is no club or group, or plan, it's individuals replying with their own opinions.

Finally, read a few of gypsy's comments on homelessness, or his recent post by the DLNR officer speaking about the ohia trees. Do you see any bullying? Any gang tactics? Or do you see people thanking him for his posts? The positive responses might suggest that it's not a gypsypost that invites the conduct you're questioning, it's the content of the post. Of course we are all entitled to our opinion on Punaweb, but when he dresses up his comments as pretend opinions, those are the times he especially invites responses. gypsy's main mo on this site is the phony jmo.

For example, he often says the TMT will pollute the Mauna Kea watershed (jmo). That's not an opinion, it's a false statement. If you consider the responses to then be mudslinging, the next question would be, why does he repeat the same comment and type of comments ad nauseam? Is it because he enjoys being treated like an imbecile? Or do you think every remark he makes is his true and honest conviction? Perhaps he doesn't understand the replies which provide him with real and factual information? Or does he relish the response and attention, and so continues to encourage it?

Personally, I think as knieft pointed out, it's probably the later. But, that's jmo.

A common sign of trolling is when the topic becomes the troll.

For my part I have not regularly read this topic so I have been a bit slow to analyze the ongoing content. You should all be told though that Gypsy69 has been removed from Punweb so from here on out some of you will be beating a dead horse. I ask you to not do that.

What spurred me to act was Gypsy69's last post which was aiming vulgar language at someone (I can't recall who).

So we can move on. If you want to address the topic heading - Contested Case Hearing Status - do so... but we can
leave discussion of Gypsy69 out of it please. The individual is not here to defend him/her self.

Assume the best and ask questions.

Thank you Rob. Unfortunate when it has to happen but you don't take banning lightly. I have already forgotten them.

Leo, if you are genuinely interested in the topic, as many of us are, then you'll know what the latest news is. The BLNR decision, once again, is here:

https://dlnr.hawaii.gov/mk/files/2017/09...FCOLDO.pdf

Please read it if you want to make a contribution. Right now, things are at a standstill as the TMT needs to get permits to start building and there are ongoing appeals. If you have a genuine interest in the topic, you know this already.

We could have and should have virtually banned him ourselves by not acknowledging or answering his posts. Hard, I know.

Trolls can be only be ignored once you've identified them. There are too many users who arrive here who assume everyone is discussing topics in good faith.

The latest news is UH and TMT are trying to avoid yet another contested case hearing, this time on the sublease. They are appealing to the State Supreme Court to rule on it.

The University of Hawaii at Hilo and TMT International Observatory, LLC, in a letter to the Hawai`i Attorney General, have asked that the state Board of Land and Natural Resources not initiate at this time a contested case hearing regarding BLNR’s consent to a sublease to Thirty Meter Telescope builders on Mauna Kea.

On December 16, 2016, Hilo circuit court judge Greg Nakamura, now retired, vacated BLNR’s consent to a sublease by UH to TMT because no contested case was held. A contested case had been requested by E. Kalani Flores.

UH and BLNR appealed Judge Nakamura’s decision and the appeal is now pending before the Hawaii Supreme Court.

In a separate appeal, several parties including E. Kalani Flores have asked the Hawaii Supreme Court to overturn BLNR’s approval of a conservation district land use permit to UH, after a lengthy contested case proceeding before retired state judge Riki May Amano, to build the Thirty Meter Telescope on Maunakea.
