What the hell is going on?

I don’t know how we expect kids to go to school when they can’t be assured of their safety there.

I’m pretty certain that I would refuse to go to school under these circumstances.

Letter sent home today " out of abundance of caution, additional security measures were implemented including having HPD officers at multiple schools. "

Trained people with a gun to protect our children from those that would do them harm in the worst way. Sounds good to me.

Sad commentary glinda...

The saddest part is even with all the lofty rhetoric, all the for the people by the people idealism, the speeches, the fundraisers, and shaking of hands, government doesn't work for its citizenry but rather is an agent on behalf of corporate profit, even at the expense of its children's lives.

Not gonna happen on the national level and you know it. Just look at the recent vote in Florida, for chrissakes, where the legislature rejected this by a 3 to 1 margin.
I think it would be awesome if a state such as Hawaii set an example by doing this, along with limiting size of ammo magazines and raising the age of gun ownership to 21.

Why did anyone expect differently?

It's obvious that our "elected representatives" don't work for "the people".

There was a trained and armed deputy at Columbine, fat lot of good that did. How about making it harder for people to get high powered weapons instead? Hawaii is doing the right thing.

What about the bullying in schools?
What about the endless news coverage of these shootings?
What about not selling guns to mentally ill people?

"What about the bullying in schools?"

I agree !

Most of these kids who did these shootings were bullied.

All of these mentally ill children across the country and the big idea so far is to take away their guns. CPS visited the home and said the shooter was totally fine and not a danger to anyone. The FBI was told numerous times about the shooter and did nothing. These kids will keep passing background checks because they aren't criminals. How about required quarterly meetings with a mental health professional, a counsellor, to check in and identify the kids who need help? Against your religion? Too bad!

How about required quarterly meetings...

BS! That is just sidestepping the bigger issue. GET RID OF THE !@#$%^ GUNS!

ETA: If you want a gun, any gun, YOU should be required to go to quarterly meetings! Because as far as I am concerned to want a gun is a sickness.
