Oddly enough you would use "committed by children" to cover for what the rest of us know is an ageless issue, especially when we look back at all the mass killings over the years. But then, it is equally apparent to us that you are a strong proponent of everyone having guns and as such blaming the problems we all attribute to them to something else.

"Considering that the shootings that precipitated this discussion were committed by children"

If you mean Florida, it was one person and he was an adult.

"As I said, this would be a far different discussion were the American citizenry mature enough to handle guns."

Another factor, probably more important than average citizens, IMO, is the matter of nut cases. 3-5 people out of every 1 million people are deranged. 325 million people in the U.S.; do the math on the numbers.

It is near impossible to proactively ID all nutcases. If guns are widely available--as they are--nut cases will eventually get a gun. Frequent result: mass shooting. The NRA proposal to secure every school and building in the U.S. with guards (while leaving guns widely available) is insanity.

Correct: their social media postings, FBI interviews, "concerns" from various members of the community, etc, are only ever discovered AFTER the mass shooting incident.

Every. Single. Time.

How long ago was the term "going postal" coined? Couple of decades, at least. Yet here we are still arguing about root cause and possible mitigation.

I feel like we have more nut cases than guns at times. The most insane part of this is the parents who have suffered through this are getting death threats from people who think they are making it all up.

The mother of a student who survived the deadly Florida high school shooting said her family has received death threats in the wake of the tragedy.

Student David Hogg and other survivors of the Florida shooting have made frequent media appearances in recent days to call for action on gun violence. They have since become the subject of conspiracy theories falsely claiming they are actors who were coached ahead of their television appearances.

Hogg's mother, Rebecca Boldrick, told The Washington Post her family has received death threats online since the conspiracy theories surfaced.

“I’m under so much stress,” she told the Post.

“I’m angry and exhausted," she continued. "Angry, exhausted and extremely proud.”

Hogg has spoken out in recent days against the conspiracy theories against him, saying he is not a "crisis actor" but is someone who had to live through this tragedy.

“It’s annoying. I hate it. But it’s part of American democracy,” Hogg said in a phone interview with the Post. “Am I an actor? No. Am I a witness? Yes.”

Earlier this week, a Florida state lawmaker's aide was fired hours after claiming two survivors of the Florida shooting — including Hogg — who had appeared on television were actors....

This also happened to the Sandy Hook families because there was an effort to paint the whole event as a hoax. People actually went into hiding to get away from them. The parents of Sandy Hook victim Noah Pozner moved to Boca Raton after the tragedy, with their two remaining children. They were able to keep it a secret for a while but that didn't last. Last year they had to move again due to these conspiracy hoaxers. They received threatening letters, voice mails, blog posts, social media posting their homes and information. Some of this done by a local University professor. A detective then threatened them with arrest when they tried to expose the hoaxers.

Its disgusting. And we will now have even more people for the hoaxers to target. source: https://forward.com/news/national/387185...oca-raton/

Bump stocks?

Does anyone see the logical fallacy in banning something that can easily be 3D-printed?

logical fallacy in banning... easily be 3D-printed?

If, for the sake of argument, a high capacity rifle was available in Hawaii and was subsequently banned, would it stop all use of the technology? No, as you pointed out they can be 3-D printed, or obtained from existing stockpiles owned previous to the ban.

Will it make it more difficult to obtain this technology, subsequently reducing future impulse purchases and use?
Yes.

Sure, anything that makes it easy for nut jobs to kill a lot of people. As MarkD says, there will always be nut jobs, we just shouldn't make it easy for them. Anyway, it's not up to me, it's up to our lord and master, the NRA.

Such a relief to be living far away from the mainland madness.

Of course. Opponents of further gun restrictions seize on hypothetical loopholes that for the most part wouldn't be utilized. Obviously there is no single solution to the problem, only many individual measures than can make a difference.
