The driver should have a clarifying statement.

Awwwww. It is nice that someone still knows this.

I was told that it stems from the days of awnings only extending so far, so the person closest to the curb got rained on?

Rained on? Not quite. They threw human waste in the streets in Medieval times, and the men were supposed to shield the women.

That is not a common way for a female to commit suicide. Suicide by car, hanging, and gun are more male methods. Exhaust, pills, and wrists are more female methods. Sounds sexist but there is science to back it up. I'd be looking at this more of a homicide.

However it happened, it's quite a tragedy for everyone involved. Narrow shoulders, 55 mph speed limit. Not a lot of time for a driver to react to a sudden movement, no matter what the cause. It doesn't take much of a movement to get you off the shoulder and into traffic there.

That's quite a leap!

Mile 12 is between Pahoa and Leilani Blvd. There are no sidewalks, bicycle lanes or breakdown lanes...
