Well terracore, sorry to disappoint, this isn't that kind of site. Although I am fit as a fiddle and take nice pics at 45.
Only 3 times since Iselle Kenney? That makes me think twice about going out and buying an AC unit. If I wait though, they will be more expensive in August and September.

We got the 3 k ductless. Ouch. I didn’t want to lose window space or cut a hole in the wall. The dogs like to pee on the unit outside. Nice.
We have it covered in plastic. I hope it doesn’t rust before we need it again.

Ok. Will try. Ductless is the newest type of AC.
It’s doesn’t sit in a window. Credit Union of Hawaii has one. You can control it with your phone. It’s quiet and energy efficient and waaay more than we needed for a house our size.
For close to 3 k, it was purchased and installed.
There is a smaller one, but the price difference wasn’t much, so decided to go for overkill because breathing was getting really difficult.

Our house (shack, whatever) is single wall, but the thought has crossed my mind to make a tiny super-insulated bedroom and throw in one of those <$150 window units in the window. We would call it the "escape pod".

I used to work nights, so we insulated when we remodeled so I could sleep (with AC) during the day.
The problem with insulation is that if and when the house heats up, it stays heated.
We actually long for the days when our house/shack was half wall and screen and always cool at night with no electricity at all.

It used be to about 87 would be the record in most years. Now we get 90 in March. I wonder what it will be like in another 10 years.

Wow 3 grand for an AC unit. That's about $2,500 more than I was looking to pay for one. Although I will do the installation myself to save money. Sounds like the one you got does have some "cool" features though Kenney. Nice to be able to control it remotely from your phone.

I ordered one a few years ago through Home Depot.
It's an in room unit. It only requires a small 3" hole through a window which vents the warm air and moisture outside through a flexible hose.
It was the same price as HD's online listing plus about $60 for Calif taxes and shipping.
If you don't see the exact model you'd like at the store in Hilo, it's a good way to bring in a unit suited to the size of the room you'll use it in, with specific features you might prefer. (Remote control!)
