Not quite sure what to make of this at the moment:
"
Senate bill calling for new Mauna Kea management stalls in the House"
"
A state senator is pulling out all the stops to make sure his bill stays alive at the State Capitol. The fight for new management of Mauna Kea stalled in the House.
Senator Kai Kahele, originally from Hawaii Island, wrote the bill that passed through the Senate this session, but when it moved over to the House the Finance Committee refused to hear it.
"It seems like there's very little support by anyone for this." Representative and Finance Committee Chairwoman Sylvia Luke."

Kahele also wrote an article on the subject in the Honolulu Civil Beat a couple of days ago. In it, he seems to say a lot without actually saying anything. You can read it here.

Thank god for the house reps, and what in the world is wrong with the senators - what did OHA promise them for this I wonder.

HB 1985 has been gutted and replaced on short notice by a version of SB 3090.
That version is actually SB3090 SD1, now HB 1985.
And they are sneaking it through today, 04/05/2018.
Too quick to mount opposition to this gift to OHA.
More BS from "our" alleged "representatives".
Corrupt business as usual on Beretania Street.
Better at least call our reps and submit testimony online THIS MORNING (04/05/2018) for what it's worth if you oppose
this travesty and attack on our future and gift to corrupt OHA.

I don't understand Kai's obsession with this. It's pretty unpopular. He really does say a lot without saying anything. Did anyone try to watch the 90 minutes of him lecturing about Mauna Kea which was supposed to be in support of this bill:
http://www.bigislandvideonews.com/2018/0...-keaukaha/
It really says very little about the bill at all for 90 minutes. I guess the idea is these magic 7 people will solve all the problems without the messy public interaction.
On a similar note the "EnVision Maunakea" report also came out today:
http://www.envisionmaunakea.org/hui-hool...he-report/
I think this report is pretty accurate in the variety of opinions regarding the mauna here on the island.

"EnVision Maunakea" report also came out today
Thank you Eric1600.
I looked over the first few pages, and can't wait to read the entire report after work today.
My first impression is that it's well written and inclusive of all voices, on both sides of the issue. Everyone who cares about Mauna Kea today and in the future.

It's orders from the higher ups in his cultural niche (OHA).
That's business as usual in Hawai'i - play along to get along - it's painfully obvious.

The latest update:

"
The bill passed through the Senate Ways and Means Committee Thursday. It will still need to be heard in conference where both House and Senate members would need to work out their differences."
So I guess it now goes into the murky world of Honolulu politics where anything might happen.

PS. For those as unfamiliar as I am about the legislative process in Honolulu; a couple of new stories about "gut-and-replace" and "Frankenstein Bills", a tactic that Kahele is now using for his Mauna Kea management bill:

http://www.kitv.com/story/37893491/civil...tein-bills
This seems to be a particularly distasteful practice but is completely lawful.

"gut-and-replace" and "Frankenstein Bills"
That kind of deceit sounds like a desecration of the legislative process.
