Excitement in Tiki Gardens

I try to read every thing I can about The Big Island and recently I picked up a not so pretty account of a murder in Puna. that being said it touch briefly on the subject of Marijuana and how big it was in Puna during the 70's.

Someone posted earlier their concerns for happening on to booby-traps, I wondered since what they might be. This book is a non-fictional account so I presume this info is credible. It seems that some growers and without doubt brings new meaning to the phrase "Godless Heathen Hippie" ( Thanks GL ), would go so far as to.....Stop! being an open forum I won't post what those traps were, for fear of the wrong people being enlightened, but let me say they are beyond belief by most of us. please be careful in the jungle- above, beneath and around you as you walk through known areas of old pot plantations and the suspected current ones. I understand better why some would think of Puna as being wild and lawless.. for a time it was.

This info was researched/written by Chris Loos, crime reporter for the Tribune Herald

pot plantations?, LOL, maybe 30 years ago. this sounds more like fearmongering to me.

I agree with the fearmongering statement. Been hiking around the "known areas of old pot plantations and the suspected current ones" for the better part of 15 years. I have never came across any booby traps of any kind. Although about a mile above Kalapana transfer station I have seen a lot of old camp sites where tall metal poles are erected and secured to trees with small ropes.... looks like some sort of crude antenna. Also noticed a lot of the trees had tinfoil wraped around the middle of their trunks... LOL was someone building an antenna to talk to the aliens?

I believe I said "old", as in 30 years ago, But then again how many plants in the ground does it take to classify it as a plantation. How about a thousand would that do it? I'll bet the folks from the Hawi were like yourself, lol, at the plantation thought too prior to July 2006. Then again maybe you missed the article,

http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/arti...ocal03.txt

I also remember someone mentioning the fact that there was a known operation located in Mountain View, although no mention of size was reported. I believe there are many sizeable plots of pot around the Island and Puna would be the last place not to expect it.

"fearmongering" perhaps Don Rumsfield and the bird flu pandemic, That is fearmongering. Not a simple warning about things left in the jungle that could cause harm to someone.

BTW 1635 growing plants,

[ plantation, def. of (1) an estate , as in a warm climate, cultivated by workers living on it. (2) A large cultivated planting.]

if spaced at 4-6 feet per plant, not to mention the harvested 14 pounds. Sounds like a plantation to me.

Eeegads and I thought Hawi was a sedate community! Well a sedate community, vs a party hardy community would be a great place to hide wouldn't it. Wow a current day article, thanks Dave.

In this article you'll notice they say "high-tech growing lab". that indicates an indoor operation. Not exactly something you'll just stumble across while out bird watching.....

Yup I read that article and it clearly was an indoor operation. Just more fear mongering. OOOH watch out for the scary low life pot growers and their traps!!

I gotta laugh as I re-read these posts! A pal who formerly grew is now growing coffee... more $$'s per lb!! ha ha - He is growing coffee from Jamaican Blue Mountain beans... peaberry maybe? My take knowing some of the oldtimers (not newbies) folks in the Acres fairly well is that maybe not as much pot as 30 years ago but more legal crops...... but then as one told me - it was easier to weed eat 3 acres when I bought this 25 years ago - than to do it today...

Curiosity - ice must also have a specific heat signature or the accoutremonts used to process it - can the helios check that?

There's a three year statute of limitations, so by phrasing it within a 10 year period, Punagirl wrote nothing that could be used against her in a court of law. (Sorry, the lawyer in me comes out from time to time.) By the way, I agree, it is idotic that our Federal Government spends far more on pot than ice.
