Guess some will bitch that they flew there on an airplane and wasted that money when they could have paddled over !

Obie - my advice to you would let others boast of you, not yourself. You could have just provided the Red Cross link and said donations are being accepted for those on Kauai. Many in Puna can't afford to give donations anywhere near as large as yours and your post may cause offense. On the other hand, thank you for caring about those affected by the flooding.

I'm no fan of the charity industry either, but why would you suppose gofundme is any better.
Apart from the money they (gofundme.com) skim off the top, how do we know how the money is used by the recipients?

That’s a chance you take with any charity, but Red Cross has a history.
I’m about to write a check today to the worst charity of them all the IRS. I would much rather be sending the money directly to help the people of Hanalei and all over Kaua’i.

Only on Punaweb you will get scoldings for donating to charity.
