Chili, low tide is 10:49 according to how I read the table at: http://www.freetidetables.com/tides/?tti=Hawaii%2C+Hilo
The steps at the South bay (right near the showers) makes for a decent staging area for those not wanting to deal with waves & rocks. BUT IT IS A CHILLY ENTRANCE, as this is pretty much all fresh water springs. Usually a couple of turtles hang out munching on limu here.
We'll be there, hubby may just snorkel, or maybe dive.
Aloha, Carey

Thanks Carey for the tide tables chart. You're right, the water is a bit chilly at the steps, but it makes for a real easy entrance into the water. It's not that far to surface swim to deeper water, or one can submerge and go out. Either way. looking forward to meeting you and the hubby. My better half will also be there too, but she hates the water. Go figure. Sounds like we might have a few interested people who could show. I think we may have the beginning of a "DIVE CLUB". It's going to be fun. I'm bring an extra reg. and BC along with several masks and fins. Sorry, but only have 2 extra snorkles. Can loan the fins and masks to anyone wanting to use them, but need to see a "C" card for the reg. and BC. Also if anyone has any extra tanks, feel free to bring them. I'm sure someone would appreciate it. I'm also bring a pop up 10x10 Shade Canopy With a few chairs and a table. It's probably going to get warm out there if it doesn't rain. See you on the 27th, Aloha.

Hey Chili... I indulged in my major "California" behavior and got my nails done today. Got a nice little whales tale air brushed onto one nail, and a nice white stripe across a red toe ...pseudo dive flag.... hehehe

Meanwhile back on the ranch Hubby got out all my gear for inspection. Turns out I have quite a few extra masks and snorkels. I will bring them all.

I took my two tanks to Bill at Nautalus dive shop. $10 a tank to VIP and $5 a tank to fill. Yikes; can't wait till we formalize the dive club and provide some of these services for our own at better prices. It will come.....

So what time on Sunday the 27th? I will be there and Hubby too. He doesn't dive but will man the BBQ and beachhead for us. This is gonna be fun!

This Sunday at 9 am at Richardson's beach park. Near the steps we will have a blue shade conopy set up with a few chairs and table and plenty of our own dive and snorkel gear strewn about. Remember, this coming Sunday, the 27th of August, 9 am. Our first get together for our first dives and get aquainted social get-to-gether. Can't wait to see those "Dive Nails" Pam. See you all there. Ya Hoo. It's coming down. Chili

Chili, I passed the info about the dive (and your contact info) to a friend that loves to dive. He's not on the forum, but you may find that Paul makes it.

Hilo Dive Club… first gathering:
SUNDAY August 27th, 9 am.
Richardson’s Beach

Bring your gear….
Bring your good spirit
Bring a cooler of drinks
Bring chairs

It doesn’t matter if you are a certified diver, a snorkler, or beach support. Everyone is welcome to join us. We will be meeting one another, matching up for skill levels to find dive partners, checking out our gear and for many just getting back into the water after a long time dry.

Because Chili is a PADI certified instructor there are some liability issues he has to be concerned with. If you want to borrow any gear other than a snorkel, fins and/or mask, have your “C” card available and be prepared to sign a simple liability wavier. Thanks for understanding that one.

We will have a BBQ up with a few lunch goodies; feel free to bring something to share if you like.

Richardson’s has a fairly easy entry. Low tide is at 10 AM (shorter swim for us old farts), general facilities for the beach support crew and we will have a blue “easy up” and table to help you locate us.

FINS UP……….. LET’S GET WET!

To all interested in "The Puna Dive Club". It looks like all the talk, all the posturing is finally over. Tomorrow is the dawn of a new day that we will all remember, the dive clubs first get together. We have talked with Bill at Nautilus Dive Center, the only dive shop on this side od the island, and he is going to work with us to provide some discounts (to be worked out later) for the dive clubs members. Just one more perk for being a club member. As Pam mentioned earlier, we will be bringing hot dogs and some cole slaw to to recharge the energy battery's. Feel free to bring some thing to share if you feel like it. There is water for drinking at the park, but it would be a good idea to bring gatoraid or something similar. I have extra o-rings and such in case they are needed. Well, thats about it. Hope to see a whole lot of you tomorrow with gear, smiles, and enthusiaism. I know we are going to have fun. Till then, Chili
